Having the right illumination is important in the outdoors or in an emergency situation. I like small compact lanterns and but have yet to find one that I was happy with to light up large areas till now! This lantern is the one for me to date!

  1. All of my lighting solutions are Streamlight. I have a Streamlight Scorpion I’ve had for almost 10 years and it still works as new. I bought a Scorpion X as well and it is fantastic. I also own the TRL-1 HL for my pistol, and the Siege AA. Can’t say enough about Streamlight! 🇺🇸🗽🦅🇦🇹

  2. Nice video! A couple of points which may be of some interest to you and others who follow your channel: I have owned a Streamlight Siege AA for 15 months now and I find it has several nice features, including the ruggedness, removable diffuser, variety of hanging options, the good max brightness and waterproofness/floatability. However, two things make this the less than ideal lantern for the outdoors and emergency situations for me and no longer make it my goto lantern. Indeed, the first negative point mentioned below is an absolute deal breaker for me:

*Streamlight does NOT CONDONE using rechargeable NiMH batteries like Eneloops in the Streamlight Siege AA. I actually wrote the company about it to make sure, as these are the only AAs I use nowadays and this is what they told me (I have the e-mail to prove it)- The circuitry is NOT DESIGNED FOR RECHARGEABLES and can prematurely wear out the LEDs; therefore, their use will void the warranty and the lantern will not function properly with them. It only recommends using alkaline AA batteries. Too bad. As many know, alkaline batteries are are actually much more expensive in the long run, damaging for the environment and have a tendency to leak and damage electronics, all of which are reasons why I have stopped using them altogether. So for an outdoor lantern, not accepting AA rechargeables is a MAJOR FAIL in my books. I do hope an upgrade in future will fix this major shortcoming.

*This light does not have digitally regulated output, which means the light output diminishes gradually and only gives off the specified lumens for a relatively short time.

My lantern of choice that uses AAs is currently the Fenix CL20. It is IPX6 waterproof, accepts 2 AA rechargeables (actually recommends them) and also functions very well with a CR123 lithium battery (particularly for cold weather use) and has digitally regulated output which gives constant brightness. It also has the red light features, a magnetic base and a tough hanging hook and other nice features. I look forward to seeing you test one of those, if you are so inclined.

Like you, I am always on the lookout for models that uses readily available batteries such as AAs and performs well in the most conditions.

  3. I have this lantern, and I like that the hood comes off and the lantern can be used as a very diffused flashlight. I often take the hood off and with it laying on my chest, use it to read before going to sleep.

  4. Is this the same size as the UST Pico or smaller? I see that at 100 lumens it only lasts 15 hours and the Pico at 123 lumens last for 26 hours. Which one do you prefer out of the two? I know the UST lanterns shine a clear light and when they're at the lower lumens it looks like a blue light. I have a Black Diamond Moji lantern 100 lumens that shines a white light but similar to my daylight light bulbs at home. Is the colour of this Seige closer to the UST or Black Diamond lighting would you say?

I love your videos. They're always so well thought out. You're a great instructor!!!!

  5. like streamlight and like little lanterns – win win – nice video

on another note, Esee 3HM and Esee 4 HM have both been released via knife connection and others but no one has a review vid for either models – was hoping you would be the first to review them both but nothing yet, why not?

  6. Great light. I have had it over a year and like to take the diffuser off and hang with paracord from a limb by the clip on bottom. Helps spread the light over a larger area and not have turn it up as bright

  7. Funny thing is I was thinking about getting this and it's bigger brother and bam you do another video that makes me pull the trigger on the purchase. thanks again for the review.

  8. Hey Aaron, can you recommend a good area were some one can go camping in the mountains. I was originally gonna camp at Estes park but I was told its a national park so it's very strict and can't have fires.

  9. I've been using this lantern for over a year now, and I love it. I also gave them out as Christmas gifts last year. Compact, efficient, and affordable. Couldn't ask for anything better.

  10. I remember deciding between this and the Coleman high tech a couple years ago. Can't remember why I picked the Coleman, but this looks much nicer. Thanks a lot Aaron, lol.
