  1. I have a really short 7.62×39 pistol that destroys muzzle brakes. I think the burning power outside the barrel literally cuts though the metal. Anyone have a suggestion on how to prevent this?

  2. Dayton mass shooter used an AR-15 with a 10.5 inch barrel. Killed 9 and wounded 17 in 32 seconds. I would say shorter barrel length doesn't make the .223/5.56 ammo any less lethal.

  3. I’m an old guy who built my AR-15 back in the ‘70s. Back then there were lots of discussions concerning the barrel length of that rifle. There was interest in MACVSOG, who used short barreled rifles in Vietnam until they were disbanded in 1973 at the end of the war for the U.S. Supposedly they tried 10.5” and they weren’t reliable, so they used 11.5”. Back then we had a choice of two different lengths of flash hiders to make the length at least 16” and avoid getting into trouble. Also they weren’t required to be welded or even pinned on. They just had to be there. Most makers were afraid to sell short barrels for builds. Many of them required you to send in a copy of your license to own a short barreled rifle. So I took a regular length barrel and machined it to 10.5”. It took some welding and work to make the area for the gas hole, but it worked perfectly. Always has worked throughout these decades. I had to weld on the 6” flash hider as the laws changed though. It’s amazing how short they have chopped the barrels now. The guys back then wouldn’t have thought it possible!
