This AR-15 Build Series will hopefully assist in showing how we build our AR-15’s. It might be intimidating to build an AR-15, but take your time and get the right tools and building your AR-15 should be rather easy. This video is on the AR-15 Upper Assembly, specifically the Barrel, Barrel Nut, Gas Tube, Gas Block. In this video we are using items made by Vltor, Nordic Components, AM-TAC, Seekings and Young Manufacturing. Stay tuned for part 5.

  1. Great series.  My only criticism in this vid is that you guys didn't use mil-spec Aeroshell 33ms or a moly type grease to lube the barrel nut. This is especially important because it not only prevents galling of the threads, but prevents the barrel nut from becoming fuzed to the upper threads due to high temperatures and due to bare steel reacting with bare aluminum. The high temperature grease prevents corrosion when steel is in contact with aluminum.

Steel and aluminum can react to each other over time when they are in contact with each other and causes aluminum to corrode. Improper greases used on the barrel nut threads can lead to the barrel nuts fuzing to the threads due to corrosion if the barrel nut is steel.  May not be an issue if the barrel nut is aluminum.

  2. I think the Geissle Reaction Rod smokes any receiver blocks out there cause it supports the receiver and perfectly goes in the barrel extension so no stress on the upper! It's a little to over priced but I wouldn't take anything for it. Love this series of vids even though im am knowledgable in building ARs I still love to watch a gun get built! Great job guys can't wait for the final product!

  3. try using parallel jaw pliers to get the roll pins in the gas block and receiver I use the knipex ratcheting type. also its a good idea to dimple at least one of the holes in the barrel for the set screw type gas blocks. great video series btw!

  4. I like how you left in the marred up gas block cap'n. Anyone whos ever built an AR from start to finish knows theres always one or two things that just don't go as smoothly as they should haha. The "pain in the ass" parts.
