First Look: Forth Generation EOTECH 5x Magnifier – The G45

I waited on this for a LONG time. I think it was announced around SHOT SHOW 2020 with an estimated ship date of Q1 2020. Well, we all know what happened in Q1 of 2020 that threw the world on its ear and wreaked havoc on manufacturing globally.

“Since 1996, EOTECH Holographic Weapon Sights (HWS) have been designed, developed and manufactured in the US”, but unfortunately they never made their Q1 ship date. I had one on pre/backorder with Brownell’s as soon as they were in the system and could be backordered. Months went by. Then in October Brownell’s reached out to me to see if I still wanted to keep the backorder. Why not? Nothing to loose. Christmas comes and goes (was hoping it would be available for the holidays, but no).

More months go by and then resellers began to list target availability dates as end of March, 2021. Brownell’s recently reached out to confirm I still wanted this magnifier as it had been so long. I confirmed and they shipped it. Now it’s time to hit the range and see how much nicer a 5x is at 50/100 yards as compared to the 3x G33.

Build quality is exactly as expected from EOTECH, first class. Size is ever so slightly (~1/4″ or so) shorter than the G33 and apparently the G43 is now significantly shorter in length than it’s predecessor the G33.

  1. Little plate is a riser to switch between absolute cowitness and lower 1/3 cowitness optics (eotech makes both). No plate uses the two short screw. Plate uses the two long screws. Adjustment knobs are azimuth, you center the dot in the magnifier with those. It’s not a zeroing thing, it’s a cosmetic / alignment thing.

  2. I really hope there is a adjustable power magnifier. That would be a freaking brilliant idea. If you wonder wasn't that makes it a lpvo. My guess would be no. Since you don't have any marked reticle inside the magnifier, which is just a magnifier as it is. You got nothing to aim unless to put on a red dot or a Eotech in front of it. You change the magnifier how ever you want. CQB just flip it aside. 300 yards, adjust it in 3x, and if any distance further and not enough, just goes to more.

  3. Would be interested to see what your thoughts are on the eye relief, especially compared to the g33. I'm assuming with the extra magnification the eyebox is a little tighter, is it mucxh tighter though? Would love to hear your thoughts, especially after shooting it from some unconventional positions (barricade drills, stuff like that) to see how useable it is with weird head position where you're not able to get perfectly aligned.

  4. When can you be the first to show the donut magnified with the G45. Years and you have the mythical G45 in hand that no one ever though would finally ship.

The suspense is off the charts.

  5. If you could do a review of what this looks like set up from inside the glass at distance that would be amazing this is the only video I’ve seen of someone with an actual g45.
