EOTech holographic sights offer a different sight picture than your typical red dot sight. In the past EOTech sights have gotten a bad reputation for losing zero, short battery life and destroying battery contacts. Has EOTech fixed their holographic sight? How does the EOTech work with the G33 3.25x magnifier? Would I use one?

  1. Battery life sucks because it’s essentially dozens of red dots working in unison to build that holographic sight picture. So unless they change the way the optic patterns the holo into the glass, that battery life will not likely improve.

The caveat is this: that’s where you get such a pure parallax free picture. Eotechs are so easy mode for snap aiming that it’s almost like cheating. (Holosun cannot day the same about their holographics)

Personally I’ll suffer the 600 hour battery life – batteries are less than $2 a pop for good quality cells. It’s just not a realistic complaint in my book.

  2. EOTechs rock! More pros than cons. Battery life is a consequence of the imaging technology, deal with it.

And if someone complains about weight… workout more, ya bitch.

  3. If a dude is running away from me but at the same time is reaching behind him lobbing rounds at me or my property from 250yds away that is still a threat and me being more accurate in a static position will drop his ass.

  4. I own an EXPS3-0 mounted on my DDMv4. Love it, wouldn't pay as much for the magnifier as my sight cost. Having a variety of ARs in 5.56 or Wylde chambers and many scopes enables me to fit the rifle to my plan of the day. I've zeroed my scopes & irons at 200 yds, with dope on the loads. Some folk may say I'm an addict, I believe I'm just an enthusiast.

  5. The problem with EOTech's is the price. You can buy two Holosun 510Cs for the price of this one EOTech (3 if you factor in the magnifier). I get it. In a life or death situation why worry about cost and go with a military proven sight issues that Tim mentioned notwithstanding. For plinking at the range though? Come on. Not even a question.

  6. I find these are great for coyote population control in the California desert. I'll use a rds while on the move so if they're close a quick shot from low ready easily dispatches the coyote. If I spot them at longer distances, I use the magnifier to tell which way the animal is standing and whatnot since they can blend in with the desert sands so well. I do agree with your assessment for them on an HD gum however.

  7. How about a video comparing pros and cons of the EOTech / magnifier verses a good 1-4x 30mm optic? On a rifle for everything from coyotes and armadillos to active killers and self defense the 1-4x seems the better compromise to me. Great video!!

  8. Against 12" gongs? Who cares about the 3x magnifier. But if you want precision at 100 yards and beyond? You need magnification. Never seen a sub-MOA group at 100 yards with iron or unmagnified RDS.
