Bushmaster C15- As Good as Any Other AR15

One shooting outing with my Bushmaster Carbon 15 Gen II rifle. What will this AR do in comparison to other AR’s? It will do anything that any other AR15 rifle will do as well as any other AR and it does it with less weight.

  1. I did a similar trigger job on my Bushmaster trigger in this same gun. The original pull weight was horrible and gritty. I used a lightweight hammer spring from JP. I ran 1/4 inch Allen screw to get rid of almost all the pre travel.

The end result was nothing short of amazing. Cost me about $16.

  2. I would like to buy the magpul flip up sights, but I read on several forums (with a grain of salt) that the plane was not level from rear to front. Users said that it was hard to get to zero. Did you experience that?

  3. mine is now out for repair the 2nd time in under a year since purchase. I baby my firearms and it still fell apart. The upper rail separated and the entire upper had to be replaced. First time out after the repair the grip started to come off because the grip screw decided to strip itself out. around 400 rounds and already have to have the upper and lower replaced. Build a low weight yourself and get more for the money.

  4. I got one of the latest gens …I took it out to the range and it worked smoothly without any jams. It was light and easy to maneuver . I didn't get a chance to test the accuracy as I have read reviews about the "thin" barrel heating up and loosing accuracy due to the crappy NcStar scope mount. I didn't pick up this rifle expecting to do match rounds but its accuracy was good. Otherwise for home defense , all around purpose gun it is the best. I am very happy with it and recommend it

  5. Is NOT a chrome lined barrel. It is a 4150 CM like the predator BM rifle with life expectancy of 5-7k rounds depending on how it's fired. How do I know? Because I bought one 2-14 and it had to get sent back twice for FTF not even 3 mags fired and months down. Now I have that same barrel under a 12" MI FF handguard and it is in an XM-15 E2S shell. Notice how on their website they ONLY sell this rifle with a carbon lower and aluminum upper. Good video but it's not chrome lined so take care of it for a long life.

  6. I've had one of the newer generation models for a couple months now, with the forward assist & dust-cover & it runs flawlessly. I was looking for an entry level AR at a cheap price, picked up the C15 for $500 before tax. Added a quad-rail, scope, aftermarket stock, front grip, & some Pmags – total investment around $600-650 (w/o scope) – I've never had a problem with this gun. No jams, FTF, FTE, nothing. I've put a lot of different brass through this gun, both .223 & 5.56 all performed great. Haven't tried anything steel cased yet. I don't plan on carrying this rifle into battle, & I don't abuse my firearms so I have no worries about dropping or cracking it (fell off my dresser once, no damage) Its lightweight, does what its supposed to, & for the price, you cant beat it. I'd buy it again. The only thing I didn't like about it was the stock magazine. Felt to cheap for my liking, although it worked fine every time I used it. But it worked great, & that's what matters…

  7. I have this model fires excellent but durability to me is an issue. It broke once where the take down pins in the upper meets the lower. They have been issues of people just dropping the damn rifle and cracking. I feel like I don't have a true AR 15, I bought for $ for 1, 100 or so when the crazy gun legislation was going on. For that price now I could of gotten a nice COLT. Oh well my next purchase is an AK and want a SHTF type of rifle.

  8. I had this POS on layaway until I replaced it with a Stag Model 2 after reading horrible review for the C15. I have twenty rounds through my stag without a hiccup.

  9. I have had good luck with Bushmaster products. I have never had a C15 but I am thinking about one. I had a regular Bushmaster when I was a student & I put 200 +/- rounds through it every month for 10 years. That's over 20,000 rounds. It was the old style bolt carrier that puts some stress on the firing pin & I went through a few pins but they corrected that years ago. I had no other problems & the groups were opening up a little but it was still an accurate gun. Can you ask for more out of a $1,000 gun?
I am also pleased with their customer service. I did my "ultimate build" a while ago. Due to an eye problem I have to mount optics high so I use fixed carry handle uppers. I called Bushmaster to buy an A1 or A2 stripped upper. The computer said they were out but the guy I was talking to said he recalled seeing some A1s. He told me he would look around when he had the chance. I figured I wouldn't hear from him again but the next morning he called me back & said he found one.
Anyways, no, Bushmaster isn't best of the best by any means but they do make a solid quality product for a fair price. I trust that they won't put a product out unless it works right. They have been building carbon guns for years & when I got the bug for a lightweight AR Bushmaster was my first thought. Thx for the review. It kind of reinforces what I already suspected.

  10. I bought a pencil DD barrel in .625 1:7 twist 14.5 inches MID gas hole and easily installed an AA kit. I did a trigger job too and my job turned out 10 times better than stock. I intalled a SAMSON EVO 9EX rail. it has 12inch length underneath the AA gas block. You are on the right track. PM me for my email and I will send you photos and share some secrets to easier installation of the AA kit. I cant believe I found a fellow pencil barrel lover. Mine shoots 1MOA all day.

  11. It's been 2 months since I got mine and I've had no issues. I just got 2 new PMAGs and so far it's been great (that was the only thing I disliked was the metal mag that it came with). The only time I've had a misfeed was when a buddy of mine brought back some old reloaded rounds. For some reason it didn't like those but any other rounds (.223 or 5.56), cheap or expensive ones, have never caused an issue or a jam… And I shoot it pretty frequently. I definitely don't regret buying this.

  12. Great review!  After tons of research and seeing proof of the gun's performance, the people who own the C15 love them.  I've seen enough and will finally head to my gun shop to get one.

  13. Army Delta checking in here LZ Control….nice review, thanks.  I am in the soon process of purchasing one of these pretties. Much thanks for all the extras as well. You never mentioned the manufacturer of your quad rail or flashlight? Please advise. Thanks

  14. I purchase mine two months ago, and it's a great gun. The only issues I had was the factory magazine not feeding the last two rounds, and that's the because the follower in the magazine tilts. I just purchased a few Pmags with an anti tilt followers, and that should solve that problem. Also I had an issue with the safety switch. It would stick on fire, and would not go back to safe. I took it apart, and used synthetic grease on the shaft, and over time it stopped sticking. All is well now.

  15. I owned one of these for a year. It was a fun, light plinker and shoots well. But when I took the buffer tube off to install a sling attachment I managed to strip both the lower and the buffer tube. I removed it per spec just like I did in the Army and managed to ruin the rifle.

It's not a bad gun. But this is something to be aware of. The carbon fiber is very weak at the threads. I went with a Del Ton to replace it and for the same price I feel it is a much better rifle.

    Safe shooting all!
