Ak requires less matinence. The ak is also cheaper in most cases unless you buy shit ar rifles. Also consider how much more expensive 5.56 brass case is than steel case 7.62×39. If you stockpile ammo and or shoot a lot you will save with an ak. As far as ammo effectiveness goes most 7.62×39 5.56 and 5.45 all performs good enough to get the job done. Ak’s are also accurate enough for practical applications and what most people will use a modern sporting rifle for anyway. Most people don’t use ar’s for long range shooting anyway but still talk trash about ak accuracy.

Why would you use a intermediate rifle round for self defense? A shotgun is a way better alternative with way more versatility than any AR or AK
