If you are watching the gun industry, like at SHOT Show next week, you’ll be hearing that EOTech is back in the “Good Graces” of SOCOM. Why? Well, because after all the tests, and all the years of bad media and recalls; EOTech is still just BETTER than the other red-dot sights out there.

If you want to get your hands on one for yourself EoTech has made a coupon code just for the Tactical Rifleman Nation use code TR10 at check out to get 10% off all items in the Gear Store (apparel, sights, etc.) except for repair parts and Insight products at eotechgear.com valid for one use per customer.

Wow! The whole marketing world is going to lose their shit, because I just said that. Yes, I know, Aimpoints are better; and others will say that the new SIG red dots are better… while even others will say that Holosun makes great red dot sights also. Reality is that a Heads Up Display (HUD) is better than a Dot in a tube. Now, there are lots of companies that have tried to make HUD weapon sights. It’s like comparing the HUD of a F-22 Raptor to the HUD on a suburban SUV. It’s very hard to do, and so far EOTech, still to this day, is the only company that I know that has gotten it right.
I am big on having good variable power glass on my guns. I love big glass on my sniper rifles. If I could only pick one rifle, it would have a 1-8x variable power scope on it. However, if you are looking at setting up a rifle specifically for close quarters combat (CQB), then you need to look hard a getting the new EOTech. For shooting from odd shooting positions, like barricades and under cars, there is just nothing better.
I just picked up the new version with the Green reticle. Everyone says that the human eye picks up green faster than red. So, I decided to try it out. Now, I figured that I would lose the dot in a “Green Grass” background. Nope. This puppy is easy to acquire. I tried to get it to fail. Nada. It never let me down. It has been 4 months since we filmed this video. I am still very impressed with the EOTech. How much? Well, I asked for another EOTech for Christmas. Santa got me another one.

Thanks for watching. Strength & Honor, TR

  1. long battery life is still a big selling point for the red dot. with 3 to 5 year life span and changing the battery every new year, you never need to worry about dead batteries. I have aimpoint and trigicon red dots, and would like to add an eotech.

  2. Just bought the EXPS 3. When I looked to upgrade optics for my Sig, I looked at EO Tech, Aimpoint, Holosun and more. Drawbacks? Battery life, No shake awake and for me, that was about it. I can turn the optic off by pressing both buttons at the same time. I can turn it on by pressing one button. The glass, the reticle, the superior quality all the way around made me fork over over 5 bills for a new one. I'm not complaining. I have a Romeo 5 for a back up and Holosun does make some great optics but for me…after 2 months of research…EO Tech was it.

  3. I may be wrong but doesn’t Vortex Amg UH-1 isn’t that sight a holographic sight and if not could someone explain why it isn’t? But if it is that’s another company that does a great job in making sights and red dots

  4. I had countless problems with flickering, devoured batteries even when not used, random not powering up, and did I mention they drained batteries…. had a 512 and XPS2-2. Sent both back to Eotech during the money back time period and got a Aimpoint Pro. Several of the Sig/holosun sights and the Sig has taken a beating and licking just keeps on ticking.

  5. Hey SGM…..You have got to try out the Holosun sights specifically the new 512C! I personally have both the Eotech and the Holosun. I was a huge fan of the Eotech sights for years like you, for many of the same reasons. The 510C elite I have is amazing, it has sooo many features and is very user set up friendly. I do not have one of the new 512C's yet…but I will have one in the next quarter! I HIGHLY recommend the Holosuns and would be interested to hear your thoughts and opinions on them! I can nearly guarantee that if you contact them, they'd send you a couple to try out / beat on. I'm not a paid sponsor for them, I did stay at a holiday inn express though! LOL!

  6. Correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm more of a scope or irons guys; but it was my understanding that having both eyes open, one looking through a red dot and one eye on a target sort of tricks your brain and projects both images on the same plane…

  7. I could never get used to them, Eotech or Aimpoint. Anything with a single dot that I have to go fishing for when I need to shoot quickly. IR laser, active laser or iron sights always felt better for me. (Iron sights: I mean instinctive point and shoot over the front sight post)

  8. I am a bit wary of Eotech. They plain and simple fumbled the ball with their military contracts. They lied and covered up the sites shortcomings and settled a 25 million suit. L3 has a hard time staying on the straight and narrow when it comes to settling quite a few suits. It makes me very suspicious of the company has a whole. With that said they did buy my sight back and take care of me.

  9. A green reticle is not the "best". One reticle color over another is purely subjective. Green has been determined to provide less brightness than red or amber. There are many folks whose color vision is deficient in both red and green. Amber is actually brighter for those people. Calling the green Eotech "the best" is simply your opinion. Doesn't make it so.

  10. In the Midwest extreme temp variations are normal if I left my house right now and went outside my optic/rifle would have a 90 degree temperature change. If you live in the South I can't imagine a temp change like this is as common. That said if my optic can't handle this variation it's useless.

  11. Everyone who shot my rifles says that they love shooting the one equipped with my 518 as it's more easier to see the target and shoot. Being powered by conventional AA batteries is just a plus specially in a small town where there are no "exotic" batteries available.

  12. Ok, green is easier to see, I get it. But guess what else is green? Just about fuckin everything outside.

Now I don't have experience with green dots but I think it would be a disadvantage having a green reticle on a green background/target

  13. Hey Mate. An Aussie Civilian here. I'm writing a novel and lot of your recommendations are going into it. Just wanted your impression on the Eotech Holographic Hybrid Sight I™ EXPS3-4 with G33.STS Magnifier. Please
