  1. Hey Jason, you know .308 better than me. I love .308 bolt actions, my wife and I picked one up today, a Ruger American with a Crossfire II scope.

The barrel has a 1:10 RH twist. Was wondering if you could recommend a particular grain?

    She's a lovely rifle, with a 22 inch barrel.

  2. Rather go with the 260. Uses the 308 as its parent round so cases will be more abailable. The 6.5cm is great, but based on some obscure case so ammo and cases will be scarcer.

  3. Actually, despite the less bullet choice 6.5 is actually better for deer rounds. Hornady American whitetail interlock is actually more powerful than the .308 version(s) beyond about 500 yards, (and the extra power up close isn't really needed on deer). Not to mention more accurate more penetrative etc. 30 cal has a lot of deer bullets for obvious reasons, and ones that expand at low velocities, but it is possible to load round nose too, not that woods rounds and creedmoor would ever really be an ideal combination

  4. Yeah neither are elk worthy at range, and can just use a heavy 338 fed for close, up to 300yards ~. A 45 raptor has massive tko if you can get within 100. But generally i see all the .308 family as suited to anything up to elk, with the 30-06 father as just about bridging the gap with the magnums. Altho much closer to 308 than 300 win mag, power-wise. Next step down 6.8spc is great for deers. And 556 is great for picking your teeth with afterwards

  5. SOCOM just replaced the .308/7.62 with 6.5 creedmoor for their sniper rifles in 2018 so your arguments are now invalid…😉 And surplus brass and ammo is just around the corner! Starline makes 6.5 Creedmoor brass now too. Sellier & Bellot 140gr FMJ ammo is available in 6.5cm now too, $299 for 500 rounds already LOADED!

  6. Very well put.
My husband limits himself to 300 yds. You can always get closer. It seems that you have some respect for the game animals being hunted.
My husband once shot adeer slightly over 300 yds. In 40+ YRS of hunting. Mostly under 200 yds.

  7. That is an easy question to answer. 6.5 mm bullets have a higher Sectional Density and a higher Ballistic Coefficient. The 6.5 CM. Is far superior to the 308. In fact the 260 Rem. Is superior to the 308. If you understand ballistics the 6.5 Grendel kicks the 308's ass all the way out to 800 yards. Why use a caliber that has so much recoil. The "American" mindset is BIGGER IS BETTER. The 308 is NOT a better hunting caliber at any range. You sound like you know about ballistics but are making an argument for the 308. I would choose the 6.5 Grendel over either the 308 over 6.5 CM. I can use a significantly lower quantity of powder reloading 6.5 Grendel than either. Your cost of brass argument is baloney. If people are concerned about reloading should have been regularly purchasing brass for the last 10 years. I have enough to survive at my "deep woods" shtf "bunker in the forest." Are you serious? If the shtf most people are not going to survive. Your focus of ammo cost it bullshit. ARs are a poor choice for survival as are ANY firearms made from aluminum and plastic. One of my "battle rifles" is bolt action that accepts 10 round mags and the other is a custom bolt action that recharges with stripper clips also a 10 round mag. Both have heavy very stiff fluted barrels. Both are compact yet are 250 sub MOA rifles. Both are chambered 6.5 Grendel. I am currently building another rifle that will be 224 Valkyrie. I am not a really big fan of 22 caliber but the Valkyrie uses long skinny bullets. Deadly at any reasonable range. Oh by the way I have a 7mm08 and a 260 Rem. Both bolt action and both superior to the 308.

  8. I just feel like its another reinvention of the wheel. Paper differences are the only ones. Other then competition shooters that take measuring down to the mm, its just a new cool different name to put on your rifle. lol Truth is both .308 and 6.5 are medium range hunting calibers. 7mm mag or a .300 WM is what you should be using for long distance.

  9. 6.5 Creedmoor destroys barrels. After 2000 rounds you will start seeing notable accuracy loss. That makes 6.5 CM a very pricey round to shoot because you have to factor in how much each round costs towards that barrel replacement which will come sooner than you think. Terrible SHTF round, IMO.

  10. I like the 6.5CM. Ammo cost for quality ammo and for hand-loads is about the same. Ammo availability is very good in my area. The 6.5 performs better at long range and it is not even close. I have to admit that I am sensitive to recoil and I just shoot a 6.5CM better (I also like 7mm-08). The 6.5CM is capable of taking any large game in the US. In reality both guns would have limited use in SHTF. If you snipe someone at more than 50 yards you will probably not be able to claim self defense if it goes to court. Real WROL situations are rare. The only real examples I can think of are former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Basically we are talking about a war zone. Most disasters are a limited government collapse like in Argentina, the former soviet union, and Venezuela. in this situation you will be charged if you snipe someone. Also both rifles are heavy, the ammo is heavy, and they over penetrate. My primary SHTF gun is my lightweight AR in 5.56 or my take-down 22 if I have to go on foot. For me it comes down to what do I like to shoot. Range time is precious and I prefer the more accurate gun for fun, hunting and competition.

  11. SHTF scenario there are a lot of factors like even countries thought about.
The Warshau pact 7,62 X 39 and the Nato 7,62 x 51. The issue of getting ammo.
I dont care what i could carry. The idea of the smaller rounds like 5.56 x 45 and that sort.
If i cant find ammo i cant shoot. 7,62 x 39 even the bad guys shoot it.
A round more around in this world. Wish you well.

  12. The 300 win mag is waaaaaY better and you can use smaller rifle cartridge components to reassemble your 300win mag rds. The 6.5 Unicorn is a range fag toy. It is fast and straight shooting but the game is on already and only anwise man chooses his rifle according to ammo availability. If only the SAT was this easy.

  13. One thing that needs to be discussed is the availablity of 6.5 on a SHTF battlefield. If people are having to scavenge from the fallen..what would the "fallen" most likely have in THEIR rifles? On THEIR persons? It's a morbid topic, but from a survival angle it ought to be considered. I agree with "having a 308 barrel around because I don't believe whatever enemy we would face in a SHTF situation is going to have large quantities of 6.5 I'm their arsenal. Some maybe, but not most. Good and very relevant video.

  14. Gents…whatever happened to good'ol 30-06? I'll dust out my M1 Garand when SHTF. It survived and served our brave men at Normandy and Iwo Jima…it will carry me through whatever it brings after SHTF.

  15. Never will the 6.5 CM replace the COMBAT PROVEN 308… End of Story! When REAL Snipers around the Adopt the 6.5 CM, then I might agree but in the mean time, you FAN BOY LOVERS will be stuck the Range Matches, NOT TTHE REAL WORLD!

  16. SHTF 762 rules.  Its far more common and battle field pick up is a reality.  6.5 your stuck with what you have on hand and when that runs out you have an expensive club.
