Here’s a review of the EOTech 553 optic. I do some shooting with it, go over the features, discuss some of the failures that have been reported on it, and give my opinion overall on it.

  1. got a question for ya man. so, i was online trying to find a manual or a FAQs page… by any chance… if the batteries die from sitting in storage… when i change 'em… do i have to re-zero…???

  2. Great review as always; you mentioned that there are a lot of these are the used market. What would you say is a good price for a used 'like new' 553 optic? I run aimpoints on my other AR's but found, what I think are decent deals, sight and magnifier combos for pretty cheap. Just wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks again.

  3. Thinking about buying a 553 off of a guy that put about 1000 rounds of use on it and had to get in and out of trucks all day for about a year what kind of problems could I expect and how many more rounds could this thing go though "lightly used"

  4. Would this sight work on a Tavor?  Not being a standard AR platform (with the barrel low in relation to the top rail) just wondering if this could be sighted up and effective.  Thanks

  5. Quick question! I have been using AimPoint optics and haven't used an Eotech yet. They're pretty expensive especially when you compare the battery life. I was looking at the Eotech Exps3-2. That has the one extra 1MOA dot. The 3-4 seemed a bit cluttered. I wanted to have the extra dot for a little bit longer distance shooting if I decided to get the magnifier, which I most likely am. How would you compare the 3-0 to the 3-2. Would you go that way, or does the single 1MOA dot do enough if used with the magnifier. Again, they're a bit expensive and I'm looking to anyone who has more experience using these optics. Thanks so much and I really appreciate any feedback.

  6. +Mrgunsandgear channel I like the "broomstick" on your sbr. What is it? I'm using a RVG for now. Also, on my 11.5 I have a 9" rail. I want the rail closer to the end of the barrel, without hindering a suppressor once I go that route. What size rail would you recommend for my needs, which are similar to your use here. Thanks again.

  7. +Mrgunsandgear IF you see this, what size barrel do you have on your PDW. If anyone else knows, please, feel free to chime in! That's a beautiful rifle! I'm going to borrow the "stripper" idea lol!

  8. Everyone has their favorites, I just prefer Eotech. For 10 years now, I'd always run an Eotech if I had a choice, i.e my PDW. Targets were rarely engaged past 100-150 Meters. 25-75 was more common. So, in a SHTF, SD area my money is on the Eotech. My .2 cents worth. Have fun shooting, and support the NRA, or your choice of a voice for us.

  9. Off topic from the 553.I love my 512.A65. I've tried an Aimpoint comp M4, and the micro, and yes the battery life is nice, but for 100 M, and less, a distance close enough to detect a threat (100 m is pushing it, ) the Projected reticle of the Eotech, and the fast acquiring 65 moa circle for up close and personal, would be superior in MY opinion.

  10. Eotechs WILL FAIL YOU. Listen to what he said about the battery contacts failing. It's very common. I had the double AA model. I don't recall the model #. If your gun stays in the safe okay but if you carry the weapon, in the trunk and your life is on the line etc, It will fail you
Trust me get an Aimpoint, I have 2 of them. Eotechs are garbage in terms of reliability and battery life, it amazes me how they are still in business. I know over a dozen people that have the same experience and a handful of people experiencing the same problems today but are in denial despite the obvious and my stern warning. I hope this post helps someone.

  11. Thank you for putting out some of the best reviews on firearms and gear on YouTube. Not only are you pleasant to listen to, but unlike most channels on here, I actually value your opinion on a product.
