Streamlight ProTac HL Review: Looking for a high power LED flashlight? Consider the Streamlight ProTac HL. This handheld light throws a blinding 600 lumens of white light. It is great for a police officer’s duty belt, but would also serve the armed citizen very well. The full review of this and other gear is over at

Yep – the info on the board behind me in the video is wrong. It is the “ProTac” not the “TacPro” as written. Also it is 16k candela, not 13k. Clearly I need more sleep.

  1. I mounted this flashlight on an AR-15 and took it to the range. After the first couple of 3 rounds the flashlight would turn on and off during each round after being on the on position. I was extremely disappointed. Another big disappointment I noticed after purchasing this flashlight was that it was made in China. A big no no for me since I wanted to build a custom AR-15 with 100% American made parts. I bought it off Ebay so if I would of known I would of avoided it even though I've heard good reviews on it. Maybe it was a defected one, I don't know, but I will definitely be looking into SureFire flashlights.

  2. Hey Richard, I am just about to start my career in Law Enforcement and I am currently looking for a good flashlight. I was dead set on a surefire fury due to my academy buddies that loved it and I personally thought it was great from playing with theirs. However, now I am looking at others and I like the fact that this has a strobe. Have you used a Surefire fury? If so, do you like this better?Do you still use this light?
    Thanks again!

  3. I just bought one of these and I really like the strobe. I had my son test the strobe out on me as if I was an attacker, and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I couldn't see a thing while he was blinding me with the strobe. This strobe will allow you time to escape an attacker (or kick him in the groin if you prefer). I would like to see a 200-300 lumen output in addition to the low and high beams but other than that this light is almost perfect.

  4. I think both lights are very good. In fact, I have a Strion LED HL also. Brightness is about the same and both will serve in similar roles. If you expect to frequently use the light, the rechargeable Strion may be the better buy.

  5. No, I have not used any rechargeable CR123 batteries in this or other lights. I've heard some pretty nasty failure stories, and for what I use this light for, I'd rather just pay a few extra bucks and have the standard batteries.

  6. I've owned both brands, and both companies make good stuff. The last SureFire I owned was a rechargeable job (forgot the model #) from a few years back. That one did not impress me, but generally their stuff is very good. For now, I think I like the Streamlights a little better, but that is just personal opinion.

  7. Another good video review from you. Thanks!! How does this one compare to the Strion LED HL that is out now? Do you think this is brighter? 500 vs 600 lumens Should I be worried about the batteries?

  8. I got this light for Christmas last year and just recently had to swap the batteries. It gets pretty frequent use, so I think that is a pretty good run for them. I got a pack of Streamlight batteries – we will see how well they do. I think it was Duracell that came with the light. How weird the company wouldn't ship the light with their own branded batteries.

  9. Thank you for the video…. well done. I'll buy the light.

  10. I just purchased this one from Amazon, so it should be here soon. Your video made me feel like I bought the one that would suit me the best. This is the best video of all the ones out there.

  11. You can also go to streamlight. com and put in your zip and it will show you the closest retailer who sells the light you need. so no waiting for it to be shipped. i got my protac for 75$ from a police equipment place 5 mins from my house

  12. i got this light at the end of the summer and its awesome, i rarely carry it on my person it just stays in the center console of my car but it is fun to play around with, it is a great value for the light output and the price,i love this light
