  1. You younger people domt know , but police fire and medical have been using streamlight for like 30 years. So have fun with turdnight and penix.. (thurnite and fenix). Anything not streamlight is just a toy and I would not trust any other light when it's life or death. Other than streamlight . All others are just plain China garbage. I have only been relying on streamlight for 25 years . Good day.

  2. Bein someone who has both. The pro tac appears brighter and throws farther. Despite what both factories say, just what I've witnessed. But the thrunite seems built better. So if I could help one person out with this I'm happy. Both are fantastic.

  3. Streamlight just came out an upgraded version of this called the pro tac USB. 850 lumens. Comes with a proprietary 18650 that is rechargeable right in the light via a mini USB port. It also takes CR123s, and other 18650s if the main battery goes dead on you. It also has a smaller head, like the TN12 does.

  4. 2xCR123 only, low number of modes swapped by an UI that requires finger agility and has no memory, strobe before low, more expensive, headache-inducing pulse width modulation on low mode, black pocket clip and inefficient runtimes. Forget this thing, TN12 for EDC all the way.

Even if I wanted a tactical torch, I'd just get the T30S v2, which surprise surprise, is another Thrunite. 800 lumens on burst instead of 650, instantly accessible strobe with a frequency that is actually adequate to blind and daze the target, and 18650 compatibility. It's also cheaper than the HL for ten bucks or more.

  5. Cool thanks for sharing what do you think of the LED lensor range ?? I have a few and really like them, can you have to many torches lol or flash lights as you call them.
As I am from England we call them torches cool review
    All the best Pete

  6. There is still a lot you need to learn about flashlights before transferring informative reviews to the public;

From my observation, the  Stremlight Protac HL uses an older version Cree XM-L emitter, unlike your TN12 2014 version which uses a XM-L2, which not very fair to compare both of them together. Lots of brightness reduction and efficiency on the older Cree emitters.

There is visible PWM on the low mode of Protac HL which you never mention, its one of the most important info to flashlight community.

17670, 16650 batteries, similar to 18650 but smaller in diameter is designed to fit in flashlight that uses two cr123 which im currently running a 16650 in my flashlight which has size limitation issue. you can also run two RCR123 or 16340.

Flashlight with larger head doesn't provides you wider beam spills, for example a flashlight with smaller reflector will outputs much floody beam, for example, try to look up on reviews of Fenix TK51 with two emitters that able to floor and throw, it explains a lot.

  7. I've had a TN12 NW for a few months, it really is the perfect all-round flashlight for me. The mix of flood and throw is just right, plenty of power, modes, runtime and it fits in your pocket easily. It could use a slightly warmer tint, my XML2 T6 4C Convoy C8 AK47 makes colours look more natural in the woods, but that's personal preference. I'd rate that flashlight almost as highly as the Thrunite if it wasn't a bit bigger and heavier – a total bargain if anyone wants a cheaper option, available at Bang Good. Amazing quality and power for <$20.

  8. 600 lumens for 75 mins
    1050 lumens for 90 mins
    Same power source.
The Streamliight seems rather ineffient by comparison. The Thrunite is getting a lot more out of those batteries. Yeah the Streamlight may throw the light better but in terms of raw effiency it's rather poor.

  9. Jeff: this streamlight also comes in pink for those guys that have to have a different color!! Also you mention the Surefire for going to war with, well another go to war flashlight would be the Elzetta brand which are pretty indestructible and you can also use it as a hammer too! FYI Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  10. The lack of being able to use 18650s on the Protac HL is a huge downside for me personally.  Also you would figure that by paying more for the HL the UI would be better [?] – yeah its an opinion, but still.  Haven't had issues with either Streamlights or Thrunites, although lately went more the Thrunite/Nitecore route.  Love 'em all though.  Thx for the review.

  11. I prefer ThruNites myself. Bought my first one about 3-4 years ago, and that flashlight is now broken. (I don't know how. Let my sister borrow it. She claimed she didn't do anything to it, but I don't believe that. It was a Catapult V2 SST50 LED) Had a T10 stop working on me a few days ago, not sure why. But I got that basically free when I bought a TN12 2 years ago, which is a fantastic light. Just recently got a new EDC (to replace the T10) in the ThruNite Neutron 2C V2. Great light. Almost too big for EDC, but I like the modes so I will gladly take that weight.

  12. I have the Protac HL, and I prefer this light for a truck light or a home defense light. I love Thrunite lights for everyday use, but I think they make horrendous lights for momentary tactical use, solely because their UI is much more complex and usually starts with low (though they do partially remedy this with mode memory). To me, the Protac is like a Maglite D light. When I want full power immediately, that's what I go to. I don't need a flashlight that's north of $250 for a dedicated throw light, so that's what I prefer for a form factor.
