Any problems with the cloud defensive?
Is your HP-X running CR123A or the rechargeable SL-B9?
TLR-1 HP-X ftw.
The EPL head looks to have a bigger diameter than the Surfire 300 series WMLs. That could be an issue for dedicated light specific holsters. The EPL may work in holsters that fit the Streamlight's. However, if you own a Glock/M&P/P320 the Blade-Tech holster is pistol specific and will hold that gun type regardless of the WML you have equipped on the gun.
The TLR-1 has a more blue leaning " hot " light output color , its a higher kelvin level , and blue is more reflective which isn't good for car headlights in foggy conditions for example. it " whites " out vision . where the lower kelvin color manilla like yellow beige like seen on the EPL , is a " cooler " colon , and is able to penetrate better with less reflectivity . why you will see orange turn signals and yellow fog lights for example , they cut through the fog and offer a lot more detail and depth perception . its also more gentle on the eye in transitional light spaces. the EPL output reminds me of their original OWL weapon mounted light in color and its flood/hotspot. which to me is a good thing . i currently have this Streamlight on my G17 , and think my EPL will be here in the next few days .. excited to get my hands on it . i placed my order on release day and have been patiently waiting . i have 6 or 7 of their lights from pocket carry to weapon mounted , and happy with all , let down by none.
Got my pre-order EPL, the switching on it is brilliant.
I feel like cloud defense missed the train on this one. By the time it came out we got a cheaper version from Streamlight and a duel fuel option from Surefire with about the same brightness and such.
With the tighter epl body, it can have a tighter holster protecting the trigger better
I like this video, but I would have loved have seen how it pierces through tinted windows. Something could be effected for the warmer tint of EPL being more sun like vs the more sterile/clinical right white of the stream light. Aesthetic wise I think cloud takes the cake but I am leaning towards the stream light just a little bit pending further tests.
Thank you for being the first one to really do this. I was under the impression that the cloud defense EPL was supposed to fit the same holsters that the sugar fire X 300 fits
so the EPL isnt vaporware??? the streamlight beam pattern looks better. excellent review, thanks!
I've been playing with the EPLs for the past week. I love them over my other lights, due to the button function. My brain much prefers the forward press. The weight and the 18350 batt are pluses for me. Also, I'm pleased with the balance of hotspot and flood as well. I have a couple of x300s and a HLx, which I may switch out for EPLs
Not all LEDs are made the same. The same model LED will always have some variation in color. Both of my EPLs LED are pure white in color temp (like your HPx in the video).
I don't think anyone can go wrong with either light. Both are 6061 aluminum with reinforced polymer endplates/switches. I'm sure they will equally hold up to normal usage.
Are you using the SL-B9 batts in the HPx?
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Streamlight is about $40-$50 cheaper
The Cloud Defensive EPL design is a rip off of the Modlite pl350. I have both and the Modlite wins in build quality for sure. The epl just feels cheap and there's a noticeable weight difference even though the EPL is bigger…The pl350c is heavier. The output on the epl is better. I still prefer the Modlite pl350c.
They are both extremely bright. I will use the Streamlight with the shorter bessle on a rifle with no problem. Either one of these is brighter and tighter. It looks like the clouds buttons might not work as good upside down. The Streamlight VIR has became my favorite. It is not as bright but, is plenty bright enough to take a hog at 100+ with a lpvo. The cool part is with the IR laser/lum you can go even further. The feature that I love the most about vir is the 3 position master switch. Vis, Off, IR. Love the switching on the Streamlight works equally well on handgun at 6:00 or rifle/pdw at 12:00 but, it is fairly easy to accidentally engage the switch and melt the lining out of a case. The VIR makes it nice with the off position. Good comparison and Happy Thanksgiving you Ole Bandit.
Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you for sharing have great day be safe
Yes, you can see that the Cloud Defense has a "warmer" light projection. I think I like it better, less bounce back. At least it seems that way on the video. Thanks Big J. Everyone have a safe and filling Thanksgiving. 👍👍
I’ve never had anything from them. I know people love their handhelds. You can swap heads on them and other mods. To my eyes through the video, the Streamlight actually looked brighter. Maybe it’s the color temperature
Looks like a great light. I’ve not had their products before. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍽 🍁
I gota try this cloud defense but streamlight is my go to
