In this video, I put three heavy-hitting weapon lights head-to-head: Streamlight TLR-1 HL-X, Streamlight TLR-1 HP-X, and the SureFire X300 Turbo.
These are some of the most talked-about high-candela pistol lights on the market right now, and each one brings something different to the table. I break down the real-world pros and cons of each light, not just spec-sheet numbers.
🔦 What I Cover in This Comparison
• Build quality and durability
• Beam pattern (flood vs. throw)
• Candela vs. lumen performance
• Switch design and usability
• Mounting system and rail fitment
• Size, weight, and holster compatibility
• Battery type and runtime
• Price vs. performance value
💥 Live Performance Demos
Specs only tell part of the story — so I also take all three lights out in low-light conditions to show:
• Long-range target identification
• How each beam pattern actually looks on target
You’ll clearly see where each light excels — and where it falls short.
🏆 Which One Is Best?
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. The best choice depends on how you actually use your firearm — home defense, duty use, or outdoor environments. By the end of the video, you’ll know which light fits your needs, not just which one has the biggest numbers on the box.

Quick comment on the Surefire. The X300 DOES have momentary function. You push the switch with your thumb forward (towards the bezel & muzzle of weapon).
I’ve run the X300 (and switched to the Turbo a few years ago) on my duty weapon for years. The switch works well if you correctly train with it. When doing building searches, it is a light push of the thumb forward for momentary on. When contacting a suspect at gunpoint, I roll my left (support hand) up during the join phase of my weapon draw for constant on.
I’ve always instructed new recruits to take a new X300, remove the batteries, and rock the switch back and forth 100-200 times. It makes it a lot easier to activate constant on.
I have been evaluating the TLR-1 HP-X for the last 5 or 6 months on my duty weapon. I do really like it. It fits just fine in my 6360 duty holster designed for the X300 series. Running the high switches on the TLR-1 has worked well.
You’re mistaken on the surefire it does have a momentary function.
Great video, thank you for making this comparison! Looks like the HL-X has a wider beam but less bright hotspot than the HP-X and Surefure Turbo.
Thank you for putting this out man ! Great comparison I think the camera dont do justice tonthe tlr1hpx that thang is brightt
