The Arizona Legislature continues to pursue legislation aimed at protecting Second Amendment rights. Currently, two pro-gun bills are eligible for action on the House floor, SB 1068 and SB 1069.

Senate Bill 1068 prohibits governing boards of universities, colleges, and community colleges from enacting or enforcing any policy preventing the carrying of concealed handguns by carry permit holders or preventing citizens from lawfully transporting or storing firearms in locked vehicles hidden from view. Adults who are officially licensed to carry a firearm for self-defense should not be prevented from doing so simply because they seek higher education.

Senate Bill 1069 removes “muffling devices,” commonly known as suppressors, from Arizona’s list of prohibited weapons, ensuring state law is consistent with federal law and protecting the rights of law-abiding firearm owners.

Additionally, Senate Bill 1058 passed the House and has been transmitted back to the Senate for a concurrence vote. SB 1058 safeguards the privacy of firearm purchasers by prohibiting the use of firearm-specific merchant category codes (MCCs) by payment processors, preventing discrimination against gun owners and Second Amendment businesses by protecting their financial privacy.
