  1. within a 1000 yards i use a 5-25 power…. on the larger calibers i go for the higher up to 36 power… but still not using max power…. then on my ARs i have 1-6 power nightforce, the 1-6 aimpoint, and the 4×32 ACOG

  2. There’s fantasyland on a shooting range for fun, then there’s real world application where too much scope is a very real thing.
In time, and with the expenditure of enough money, you too will have a Shelf of Regret that holds past purchases. For me, it’s the big 24x Viper, the VX-R Leopold, a half dozen cheap scopes with historical brand names that seemed good in the bright store, and a whole row of Chinese red dots.
Buy what you want for your application, but the one that worked best for me in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the three Gulf Coast states where I hunt is still a 4×32 M150 ACOG in combination with the Bindon Aiming Technique.

  3. As discussed, it certainly depends on use case. I have a 14.5 with an Eotech, a 16 inch with an Acog 4X/ piggyback dot for a little magnified general use, and an 18 inch SPR with a 2-12 x for stepping into 400 yards plus, then on into 308 bolt action with a 3-18x … Not a huge fan of LPVOs. I either like a simple fixed prism or red dot for a fighting rifle, or a full featured variable for precision and distance. Whatever gets the hits at whatever distance you need to make them is the right tool for the job I guess.

  4. Need? Well, with my Savage 112J in .223, an 8x scope allowed me to see my hits. I felt that was adequate for my purposes, usually shooting varmints such as ground squirrels at less than 200 yards.

  5. Personally i find i shoot better at sub 10 magnification, however if i dont have someone spotting me or a spotting scope myself to check shot placement then higher magnification scopes are very useful.

  6. HOW FAR ARE YOU SHOOTING IS THE FIRST QUESTION YOU NEED MORE MAG FOR MORE DISTANCE OK WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO KNOW YOUTUBE CHANNELS RUN OUT OF NEW THINGS TO TALK ABOUT AND NEED TO P R E T E N D THE THING THEY WANT TO PUSH WASNT SOLVED LAST CENTURY

  7. the long zoom scopes give up sight picture its like aspect ratio on movies how much peripheral vision are you willing to sacrifice to see further
also is the rifle even worth the zoom a semi is never going to be as accurate as a good bolt action rifle
so put the 12 times on your bolt action use the 4 to 8 zooms on a semi in my opinion

  8. The long range revolution started with modern range finders, not scopes. Our sniper rifles in Canada in the late 70's had Khales 6X42 scopes. we were expected to get 100% hits at 800 meters. We could easily hit 1200 meters at a known exact range. 800 meters came from using mil dots to range; after 800 M, small differences in range estimation lead to misses. Hell, we used to compete at 1000 yds with open sights; magnification is nice, but way down the list of what's important

  9. I shoot competition .22lr and being able to completely fill my view with the USBR target is very helpful when you're aiming for something about the same size as the hole from the .22. For this reason, I shoot a 5-25x.

  10. Generally, Americans' attitude towards killing animals is reprobate at best.

One shot, one killing and not oblitterating an entire family of pigs..

Oh.. and stay the F away from Africa. You're not hunting, you're blasting an animal that had no chance adhesive a high power rifle. Go 'hunt' cartels, human traffickers and paedo rings instead and REALLY show what a hunter and tough guy you are

  11. Henry, I love ya brother, but why do you shoot without eye protection? To the small number of guys who start foaming at the mouth when I say that, type in catastrophic gun failures and watch a few guns blowing up in people’s faces…that settles it for me.

  12. My Swampfox 2-12×44 Kentucky Long FFP is all the scope I need. I am not good enough to shoot farther than 12x is capable of targeting. Maybe someday, but not today.

  13. I have landed on the 2,5-10. The 2,5 is ok in close, though I would prefer 1,5 as lowest magnification. The 10x max magnification is just right, I really don’t need more even on the longest shots. Its important not to get lost in the scope, and higher magnification makes little sense.
