Great Lakes AR-15 GLFA .223 WYLDE – Unboxing, Disassembly and Reassembly (Field Strip)

This is not only GLFA’s best selling rifle, it’s our best selling product. Not only is it damn good looking… it’s extremely accurate, afforable, and made in Michigan! This thing is a tack driver!

In the fall of 2012, Matthew and Rebecca Baker began discussing the excitement in the gun industry and their desire to get involved. By April 2013, they opened Great Lakes Firearms and Ammunition, LLC, a retail store in Sparta, Michigan. Becky’s brother Nick was brought onboard to help run the company, and by the end of the year their first year in business they began producing their own line of ammunition.

They quickly discovered that there was a need in the market for well built, affordable, American-made firearms and thus began their expansion into manufacturing. They started producing components to build complete AR uppers (handguards, barrels, muzzle brakes, and gas block), then eventually expanded into manufacturing GLFA lower receivers.

  1. I just bought this exact AR in left hand from them this weekend as my first firearm & watching you break it down has to be the most informative vid I've watched in a while. Thank you

  2. I don't even know what to say ! I got one to separate the upper n lower is a battle you have to fight to take apart and to assemble. I am goin
g to the range tomorrow n will see . I am not impressed with the quality of the product it doesn't fit properly. not even close not only the upper n lower don't fit properly the bolt n bolt carrier don't fit properly either.
Simple act to dismantle bolt n bolt carrier not with this one. Not happy at all according to denohlega pawn and gold in ga. i have to press the trigger to assemble the lower and upper or fire 1000 plus rounds to break in the rifle. I have never heard such crap .if anyone care please 🙏 help its really crap I am not a complainer but this is not even close to being right.

  3. Got one of these in grey over the summer. Looks really cool but I haven’t shot it once without having problems. It came with the fcg installed incorrectly which caused light primer strikes. But even after I fixed that it still turns into a bolt action after about 2 mags.

  4. What scope do you recommend for this? And other accessories to make it cooler? My husband got this gun for his birthday and I’m trying to surprise him with some add ons. I have no clue who to ask or what to google. Thank you!

  5. Got this same rifle, shot around 400 rounds with no hiccups.. I purchased it for $529, brand new, would recommend to anyone wanting to buy an AR platform rifle. Thinking about buying a 7.62×39 upper from Bear Creek Armory…. Anyone have info on that?

  6. I have completely built gun from them and its great. i have zero issues with the lower and upper, though I did swap out the BCG for a lantac milspec bcg. My gas key also was not staked properly, and it came loose, but i was going to buy a higher quality bcg anyways. Upgrading the bcg and the charging handle made this gun even smoother than what it was, and it was a noticeable difference when shooting.

the bcg is standard low-end stuff. (probably to cut costs, using cheaper parts in it, probably a sub $100 bcg). I've shot about 600 rounds out of mine so far, consuming 5.56 frontier brass 55 gr, .223 winchester match hbpt brass 69 gr, .223 tula steel 55gr, and .223 norma brass 55gr, and the gun ate all of it with pin point accuracy.

The only thing concerning is the actual quality of the barrel. On the GLFA website, they are selling .223 wylde 4150 nitride barrels for $109. (they also sell 416R – SS barrels that are extremely accurate but idk the price) and thats pretty damn cheap considering Aero barrels go for like minimum $175+.

When you buy any gun (or part) at this price from a smaller brand like GLFA, its going to have quality control issues. i picked mine up from a local store near in the Chicagoland area, and besides the BCG swap, i have had zero issues.
