  1. Just tighten/loosen/tighten/loosen the barrel nut until the barrel nut torque is met. This does work. 80 ft lbs is not necessary..If using barrel shims, make sure to grease the barrel nut threads, barrel flange and shim to prevent the shim from twisting up. Never put the shim between the upper receiver and barrel as some do. Never cut the barrel nut teeth/nubs. This is very sloppy work.

  2. Had to use shims with the Aero R-One handguard on an Aero upper. Damn nut had to be timed perfectly. could not get it in position within 30-80 torque. And I had already installed gas block and tube before realizing the stupid handguard even needed a timed nut. Ok, I’m actually the stupid one. So I cut the shims, used 2, and torqued to 60. The R-One went on perfectly. what a total Pain in the arsenal..

  3. 80!!!!! WTF!!!! NO WAY YOU SHOOT GROUPS LESS THEN 2" AT 300YRDS LOL… THIS IS THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD'VE BEEN TOLD DECADES AGO WHEN YOU COULD BUY COLTS FROM VIETNAM FOR LESS THEN $800. GO LOOK AT SOME BOOKS. NOT WHAT PEOPLE SAY.

  4. Honestly since it's a high end proof barrel I would prefer not to run shims. I personally would get everything torqued Mark the spot for the gas tube to fit. Break everything down, get that barrel nut in a good vise and mill out the space. I know, not every one has a mill or drill press. So if you decide to use a hand drill, or dremel. Just make sure you use a quality vise, and a new sharp bit. That's what I'd do. little more work but a proof barrel deserves that lil extra love lol

  5. We'll mabey if u didn't mash the treads like a fucking olger wtf dude it's horrible look at all the aluminum burrs on the barrel nut u need to go play with ur erector set not firearms ur a hack

  6. So if you had to do a barrel replacement in the field for whatever reason do you go in your backpack and get your torque wrench out or do you think you just put the barrel wrench on there snug it up and then give it a smack with your hand?

  7. First they take the dingle bop and they smooth it out with a bunch of schleem. The schleem is then…repurposed for later batches.

They take the dingle bop and they push it through the grumbo, where the fleeb is rubbed against it. It's important that the fleeb is rubbed, becasue the fleeb has all the fleeb juice.

Then, a schlami shows up, and he rubs it…and spits on it.

They cut the fleeb. There's several hizzards in the way.

The blamfs rub against the chumbles, and the…plubis, and grumbo are shaved away.

  8. Oh, my 80 ft lbs. Good night. You stated correctly it is a limit, like an upper max limit. however it is not a norm. There is no need to go to maximum torque on barrel nuts. 54 ft lbs then apply additional torque to align gas tube, 54 is just about a magic number for tube alignment. Well in spec too.

Unless you have done the adjusted torque calculations for your specific wrench and 80 ft lbs is what gives you 54 at the nut. Which i highly doubt.

Over the years I have worked on tons of uppers that have had maximum torque applied. Some were over 90. It is an unnecessary stress on the upper receiver.

In some instances this can cause damage to the upper receiver. Please never do this to a gun that is not yours. You will screw the next Smith who has to come behind you for barrel work. 😊
