NRA-ILA | Minnesota: Gun Control Bills Stall in Committee

Following committee votes on Tuesday, February 24th, and Wednesday, February 25th, many of the most egregious gun controls bills in the legislature have stalled committee and may not receive further consideration this session. However, it’s critical that Second Amendment supporters stay engaged as the bills can still be revived.

HF 3433 bans commonly owned gas-operated semiautomatic firearms, directly violating the Second Amendment’s “common use” standard. Anyone who lawfully possesses a banned firearm must register them with the state before May 1st, 2027, and adhere to mandatory storage requirements thereafter.

HF 3402 sets arbitrary magazine capacity restrictions and does not include a grandfather clause. Any magazine capable of holding over 10 rounds will need to be moved out of state, modified, destroyed, or surrendered to law enforcement.

HF 3351 repeals statewide firearm preemption, allowing local governments to implement a patchwork of gun laws across Minnesota.

HF 3401 prohibits firearms inside a vehicle in school parking lots during pick-up and drop-off times.
