On Tuesday, January 27th, the Senate Law & Justice committee will hold a public hearing on Senate Bill 6055, removing the fee cap on firearm background checks and expanding how the collected fees can be used.

Please contact members of the committee directly by using the TAKE ACTION button below and urge them to OPPOSE SB 6055, and consider submitting testimony in opposition through the state legislature website.

SB 6055 gives broad authority to Washington state bureaucrats to price lawful gun owners out of the market by mandating that fees collected from gun owners cover both direct and indirect costs of administering the firearm background check program. Simultaneously, while expanding how the fees can be used, the bill also removes the fee cap. How broadly this will be interpreted is unclear. However, with the recent permit to purchase scheme and the insatiable appetite for more gun control from the legislature, the potential cost implications for lawful gun owners is extreme.

Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for updates as this legislative session progresses.
