The "Compelling government interest" test has always fascinated me. Suppose their interest is that, when they eventually show up for whatever reason, they just don't want citizens shooting back when shot at. That's pretty compelling, from the erroneously shooting at civilians, .gov shooter's point of view.
However, if that asshat is shooting at you, do you shoot back or scream, "Hey, F**KHEAD! I'm the good guy here"? Remember the uniformed security that downed a shooter in a Midwest (I think) mall a few years back? He had already ended the threat, but the local PD arrived soon after and shot him in the back.
I used to recommend to my friends to get a Gun and carry it. Many have. These days, I'm recommending body armor to folks with guns. Sometimes, I get strange looks. And, I just say, "Hey! I was right about the gun. Correct? LISTEN TO ME NOW!"
Are we there yet? Yes. We are there now. If you're watching the news, you've seen black-clad (their version of urban camo) Antifa, carrying multiple firearms, often a fixed-blade knife, who knows what else, and sporting NIJ 3A+ vests or Level-4 plates. They're ready. Are we. CQB-wise, we may even be outmatched. Thank God we have the bulk of the best long range artists.
