  1. What I don't understand is why tensile strength matters. Are there tensile loads during operation? It seems to me all the loads on the bolt snd carrier are compressive loads. Steel is very good in tension. Not so much in compression (i.e. pull something with a piano wire = lots of weight can be pulled. Now push it with the wire).

And for the record, I'm a toolcraft DLC fan. 🥰. No reason except the marketing makes sense to me. I suspect the least sexy but most important thing is a bolt that is matched to the barrel/extension. Every AR barrel should come with a bolt. The carrier and bolt material is probably less important that a matched bolt/barrel with perfect head spacing and lug mating.

And what's a "certified armorer?" Most manufacturers avoid having civilians attend their armorers class.

  2. Reading Pa product here. My dad worked at CarTech (Carpenter) for over 30 years. Very tough job. I got into ar's about 2 years ago and heard "carpenter 158" so many times. I had no idea it was called that because it was made here in reading at CarTech until you just said this. Mind blown. My dad was making the steel in every milspec ar most of his life! Mind blown!

  3. Man I would love to see a range day video of you wearing a Christian Bale batman mask. You have the perfect chin and mouth to pull off a batdad look. You have the right chin and mouth structure to parody Christian Bale's batman. I think you have the sense of humor to do an awesome make fun of batman video. A little comedy now and then is just fun, for us and you.

  4. You didn’t really get into that vktr bolt. I’m trying to figure out if that carrier can be used with a different bolt. Example: I bought a centurion fbi 11.5” barrel…which is t-marked in batches, and also bought a e2 chrome bolt headspaced to it from centurion package deal. I like that vktr bolt because the cam timing s 22.5 degrees…vs the typical 20.7 most bcg’s run. So, in my not so smart mind I would figure my centurion bolt (which is hard chrome with tapered lugs specific to my chamber, and phosphate extractor with dual ejectors, should fit nicely with the vktr carrier, and the vktr cam pin for it. Would be nice to confirm a different manufacturers bolt would work with the vktr 22.5 carrier.

  5. Great video and thorough. I actually came to say this but guess i didn't need to say it but here it is.

I have a nickel boron bcg from fail zero and it has discoloration and one had pitting so i wont go with them ever again or any toolcraft bcgs. When i started building ARs about 8 yrs ago, i started with psa and aero precision. PSA bcgs are/or used to be toolcraft bcgs. I've broken 4 bolts in my mk18 build and 1 was while unsuppressed and 3 were while suppressed and all under 2k rounds. 2 toolcraft bolts and i broke 2 aero precision bolts(one pro and one was from before the pro was available). Bad batches? Maybe. I ended up getting better bolts and just used the toolcraft carriers in some of my budget builds.

Just bc they say a bcg is shot peened, high pressure tested, magnetic particle inspected, or comes with your cars extended warranty, it doesn't mean it's a quality bcg. Different companies may not do it as well as other companies. Same with the coating. Actually many phosphate carriers are better than some dlc or np3 coated. And chrome lined bcgs and barrels aren't created equal due to the coating process whether it's uneven or too thin/thick. For the price, microbest can't be beat but i really love sionics and fcd bcgs. I only have 1 geissele from the superduty upper but between all of them, i have less than 7k rounds on them but i only shoot suppressed and haven't had any issues with the bcm in my mk18 build.

  6. Wow, absolutely an awesome vid. Being a machinist and professional engine builder, the coating stuff I'm familiar with. But everything else was a complete learning experience. Thank you. You are a God-sent to us. Keep up the great content. I'm sub'n now

  7. What is your experience with VKTR? I won one at GunCon and, after much deliberation, swapped the bolt and put it in my 450 BM. Haven’t fired it yet, but it sure does hand cycle much smoother than the BCG that came with the upper.

  8. He starts the video by saying he is not an expert, then continues sounding exactly like an expert. Keep up the work brother I’m building my first rifle instead of buying a complete rifle and you have made this entire process so much easier and cost effective.

  9. I run a Centurion Sandcutter with a Geissele Stressproof Bolt and in my main rifle I have the Geissele REBCG with a LMT E-Bolt with sprinco gas rings and ejector spring. Now it’s personal preference but those 2 Bolts are the best in the industry. As for the 2 carriers they’re both hard to beat! I prefer the REBCG over the Sandcutter though.
