TECHNICAL NOTE 34, ADJUSTING THE EJECTION PATTERN OF THE AR-10® RIFLE
“ArmaLite® seeks an ejection pattern between 1:00 and 3:00, and inspects for this characteristic during inspection.”
The ejection pattern of a rifle is created by a complex interplay of the opening velocity of the carrier group, and the extractor, ejector and their springs.”
Once i drill the gas port to really cycle and lock the bolt to the rear after firing the last round, then I cut 1/2 coil at a time off the ejector spring to adjust the ejection angle as a left handed shooter. I do this at the range with an assortment of precut springs to install/test.

Over gas mean the bolt to tight?
Ejection pattern doesn’t tell the whole story. Ejector and/or extractor issues can also cause ejection pattern issues.
