Best Red Dots For Astigmatism? – comparing with and without glasses

I have the tism of the eyes. I learned I have an astigmatism after looking through an Aimpoint pro for the first time. I was disappointed that my red dot looked blurry.

This lead me to Reddit where I learned I have an astigmatism.

I have used many red dots to varying levels of success.

Today I got my first pair of glasses.

The ones that look the best to me uncorrected are:

Cyelee chameleon , vortex defender ST, holosun 507c w/acss reticle.

The sig Romeo 4XT pro is the best looking rifle dot for MY eyes.

The delta point pro I never liked at all but I haven’t had much time with them within the last 5 years.

The eotech looks ok but even corrected and on camera it’s not perfectly “clean” but many people tell me they think it is the best. Personally not a huge eotech fan tho.

Anyways, get glasses if you need them.

  1. Good info. This isn’t talked about enough on YouTube. I did plenty of research to decide on a red dot and never heard about this. I get the dot and thought it was broken.

  2. I recently found this out. I also have the eye 'tism. I ended up getting green dots for my AR and my carry. I have a 507C (green) on my G19, and 510C (green) on my AR. I pick the green way faster and they look sharper than the red dot 407K on my Sig 320 without glasses. With glasses they all look amazing but I still pick up the green faster.

  3. Just looking at your ar15 style things. I still cant believe how Commifornia put restrictions on them in the name of SAFETY for the people, yet they look much more dangerous to operate SAFELY.

  4. Interesting, my swampfox sentinel II red dot looks like a ninja star at all brightness, but people said it looks great, so I've been kinda sad since it cost a lot.
When I was a kid they said I had the 'tism (hopefully was of the eye kind) because when reading I would get sleepy (hopefully because of my eye). I'll have to recheck this now.

  5. The best “dot” is not a dot, it’s a reticle. Having a ring-dot reticle or a chevron eliminates the starburst you get with the singular focusing point of a dot.
Holosun is the crispest for my eyes.

  6. I’ve been saying this. I don’t think people know what astigmatism actually is. Because EVERYONE online claims they have an astigmatism. People that complain about having “astigmatism” and having to get a new red dot or a prism optic. No. Nothing is wrong with your dot. You don’t need to buy a new optic just fix your damn eyes. If you’re really complaining about “my astigmatism” you should be wearing glasses. Red dots should be the least of your concern like how tf are you reading anything with an astigmatism? Fix your eyes bruh get some glasses.

  7. I have astigmatisms in both eyes and recently got Myasthenia Gravis in my left eye, which is my dominant eye. I have worn glasses since 2019 but got my first pair for my astigmatisms late last year. Made a big difference with my optics. I dont have near as many as you but my Holosun EPS MRS green dot is bug splatter without my glasses but perfect with my glasses. Even with the 32moa donut. My Vortex Defender red dot is bug splatter without, but with my glasses, I see what almost looks like a figure 8 shape. The top is brighter, so thats what I use. I do want to try their new green optics and the Defender ST is my next one. For my rifle I have a green dot from AT3. Im not sure who actually makes it but with or without my glasses its bug splater. With my glasses its slightly better and im fairly accurate but Im planning to swap to a Vortex AMG UH1 soon. Ive found that i can see green better than red but dont have an issue with red. Turning the brightness down helps some too. Ive also found that everyone is different depending on how bad the astigmatisms are

  8. my glasses only help a little, my aimpoint 2k and 3k still give me a star shape and my eotech is mostly fine but with my glasses off I swear I see two of the reticle

why is it every hobby I love seems to attract people with certain tisms? Guns, cars, planes, warhammer 40k…

  9. After I quit smoking, I noticed my dots clearing up more by a lot. Glasses were the most important, I got prescription Magpul Eye Pro too, the ones the extend farther that prevent anything from getting in the sides.

  10. Ya. I put my sites up, look at my 3 point sites and have to line up the front triangle of dots with the back two triangle of dots. My old Tritium sites on my glock need replaced as they are very dim BUT the sites on my Taurus are new and bright. I thought there was something wrong with my glasses, it's the correction in my bifocals. When I look through the corrective lower, it's a nice set of 3 dots, use the distance upper lenses, each dot turn into three. Take my glasses off, I get three. This years checkup I'll discuss it with my optometrist.
