Like most people you have a distorted idea of brightness an lumens. Remember those old trusty double and triple D Maglights? Those were the standard for decades at under 90 lumens. Saying '500 at a minimum' just isn't so. This is also why Surefire lights, as a rule, are rated lower than others of comparable size. 300 lumens is a very bright light out to any distance you'll be shooting with a pistol. More than 500 for a pistol light is just plain overkill. Driving an LED harder means more heat and more heat means less durability and longevity. Its just a fact. If you want the real scoop, try candlepowerforums. There you will find real experts on lights and emitters.Who the heck shoots a pistol, at night at 50 yards? The average shooter can't hit A zone at that distance under the best of circumstances!
