1x prism sight w/ 3x magnifier atop my fighting rifle. Does this combination even work?

Vector optics Paragon 1X paired with Vortex micro 3x magnifier. I’m hearing reports from other people of parallax issues or shift in impact. Further testing is definitely needed and take everything I say with a grain of salt.

  1. Monstrum makes a magnifier specifically for forward mounting.

Keep in mind that putting glass between your optic and your target WILL shift your zero. Standard magnifiers will only allow adjustment to center the optic in front of it, they will not all you to re-zero an optic behind it. This is what monstrums forward magnifier achieves, it allows you to zero the magnifier itself.

Essentially you zero your optic, mount the magnifier, and zero the magnifier too.

Bonus perks of this is you basically get a base zero and an extended zero. So you could either zero your primary optic for 100 yards and zero the magnifier at 300 yards so you have less hold over. Or you could zero your primary optic for subsonic ammo and then zero the magnifier for supersonic ammo.

  2. When i put a sig juliet 5 micro 5x magnifier in front of a primary arms micro 1x prism I experienced a point of aim shift when I used the magnifier. I tried to adjust the magnifiers elevation and windage but it did not have enough to get my point of aim zeroed to impacts. Without the magnifier I confirmed the 1x prism was still zeroed. Did you experience any point of aim shift with the 3x vortex magnifier? Also have you seen Monstrum's 2X Flip-to-Side Forward Magnifier?

  3. I never would have thought to put the magnifier in front of the optic! That's thinking outside of the box!
I do agree with you about 1x prism sights having a much more crisp, defined reticle compared to a red dot. And red dots can also have parallax issues, too.

Some of the 1x prisms aren't a true 1x, though, and it messes with my brain. Those prism sights feel slower than a red dot, but I haven't done any measuring yet to see if it actually is slowing me down.
