1. Water filters: Great! Most filters dont do viruses, so water tabs are better than they have the right to be. In the mountains, viruses matter much less.
2. Vices: Yep, cigars and alcohol are big for me.
3. Caffeine: Yep, most doesn't keep. Coffee packets do, and they are absurdly cheap. Sugar will keep, too. Freeze dried coffee in bulk goes forever.
4. Battery banks: Solar ones are typically trash. Solar panels need to be big to actually work. The ones built in never will. Harbor Freight has a solar panel or two with USB out that can charge banks pretty quick. A metal trash can or ammo can is better than a faraday bag, and cheaper.
You missed good heater USB banks. Solar charging these off of big panels, then putting one in your sleeping bag could be a lifesaver.
5. Hygiene: Deodorant, tooth paste, floss, tooth brushes. Dental problems can kill.
6. Spices: Great idea. Salt is $2 per container usually? Easy win.
7. Fire starting: Yeah, lighters are the one you want here… And tinder. Maybe butane fuel and/or zippo fluid, if you get the sealable case for zippo. Thyrm has a great product here.
8. Socks: Nice. Wool is apparently the only thing to use for hiking, says the experts at REI.
9. Personal skills: Learn soldering and mechanic work if you can. Radios was an easy win for me.
10. Canned goods: Store off the ground, good to go. Dont let cans rust. Pop top ones are nice so can openers aren't needed. Always lie and say you have only two or three days of food stored.
Bugging in is always preferable to bugging out. Bugging out may be needed.
Ammo can be good for bartering, but only for really trusted people, and probably only rimfire even then.
Meds could be perfect for bartering, but they aren't cheap and dont last.
If you have unused solar and no banks to charge, you should charge for others, but only people you trust to know you have gear. Charging a heater power bank for someone could be a lifesaver.
Food, water, shelter. These are the needs.
