This guy looks like he’s never tracked an animal in his life. Probably only hunts from stands and has a bunch of guns, but no mobility. Built like a bag of milk.
So what you’re saying is, I don’t actually know a whole hell of a lot but what I do know is these are the most popular rounds atm and all my buddy’s at the range shoot them so that’s what I use. Am I close?
1 shot placement is key. 2 living in sweden you learn you can hunt anything roaming here with a 6,5 swede 3 a lot of people fell for the magnum craze. But even bigger calibers dont to shit if you cant shoot
Yes, and Yes…….. Great informative short.. Seen a few "shot placement" comments and Yes, this is critical as well…… I stand in that "ratified ground" between Jack O'Connor and Elmer Keith. That's where Robert Ruark stood: "Use Enough Gun". O'Connor/Keith would grab a.30-06/.300WinMag(338 Lapua) if facing bears and certainly so if they are angry bears, but not so much for prairie Dogs …lol! Col Wheland said a hunter has no business being in the field if you don't know where to shoot your game. I agree. I also understand and agree with a hunter doing his "research" on/about the intended game, weather, physical environment, including critical shot placement. Excellent information All Around!
30-06 has been around since WW1.the effectiveness hasn’t dropped over the years. It’s just other cartridges have been discovered to do better than it for more than one reason.
Or just grab grand daddy’s 3006 and grab the appropriate ammo. 130TTSX for varmints. 150TTSX for deer. 168TTSX for elk and moose. 180-200s for dangerous game…
Or…simply use the 168TTSX for everything….iv killed deer and moose with this same cartridge and they all fall the same….I don’t feel nervous in bear country one bit and being a guy who shoots for lungs, i have yet to damage any meat or eat any lead.
To each there own, but the 3006 had been stacking meat in the freezer for over 100 years and has taken game from varmints to elephants, and everything in between.
I have lots of choices, but I usually grab the old wood stock browning my uncle gave me in 3006 and a box of barnes. If your on a budget and want a one and done, cant go wrong. Applies to all the cartridges in this class (280, 270, 308, 7mmRM, ect…) Not sure why everyone wants 5 hunting rigs.

7 rem mag one rifle for everything
This guy looks like he’s never tracked an animal in his life. Probably only hunts from stands and has a bunch of guns, but no mobility. Built like a bag of milk.
9.3×62 232 grains Norma Vulkan 2625fps MV 24" barrel. You will deliver energy from 5 to 330 yards.
My 300WM hasn’t let me down…besides ammo prices
I use 300win mag or 308 mostly because I’m cheap and don’t want to buy any more bolt guns.
Did he say “a little heavier” than a 6.5 and then say 300 PRC?!?!?!
So what you’re saying is, I don’t actually know a whole hell of a lot but what I do know is these are the most popular rounds atm and all my buddy’s at the range shoot them so that’s what I use. Am I close?
Plenty of animals have been ethically taken with 270 win and 30.06
Shot placement distance physical fitness ability too move quick, slow and precise. Younger the better I guess.
You won't be far from the road.
Come on man, 6.5 will do all of those animals you mentioned. Even polar bear or elephant
Well duhhh…
Hunting *cartridge

what brake was that on this rifle?
And what about 30-06 Spingfield? I use it it stops everything bellow deer. It has more than 4200 joule energie at barrel end.

8mm mauser ftw
I know nothing about bear but 338 lapua for a moose??????
Shot placement and engagement distances are so much more important than caliber discussions.
Ma thirty awt six never done me any wrong.
Would you consider something on the order of 444 marlin for bear and moose?
