NRA recently requested the Georgia Attorney General’s Office review the City of Savannah’s mandatory vehicle gun storage ordinance against the state’s firearms preemption law. Attorney General Chris Carr quickly responded by sending a letter to the city stating that it lacks authority to regulate firearms in this manner, declaring the ordinance void, warning the city of potential civil actions should they attempt to enact or enforce their ordinance, and recommending city officials rescind it. NRA thanks Attorney General Carr for taking swift action on this issue and upholding the state’s firearms preemption law.
