Today I talk a look at the Streamlight TLR-7. One of the original lights for compact pistols. It does a great job for most of your closer engagement distances and is well supported by holster manufacturers. A solid EDC (Every Day Carry) choice.

Agreed that the TLR7 is underwhelming, especially compared to modern full-size offerings like the X300 Turbo, Modlite PL350, etc. But, for a light that size, there’s really no reason not to carry one. My only criticism of this review is that the comparison of this against other lights was done in perfect conditions for the light, meaning a pitch black range. Try using a TLR7 in an environment with mixed lighting, and its shortcomings become glaringly obvious. I have a G48/TLR7sub and G19/TLR7A for when I want something a little more comfortable for concealed carry, but most of the time I feel a lot better equipped with a Modlite or X300T on my carry G17. No, it’s not nearly as comfortable to carry, but the capability of that setup is wildly greater than that of a tiny light like the TLR7. I do have one of the TLR7 HPL heads on preorder and I’m psyched about having something the size of the TLR7 with peak output of 11,000 candela, which is X300 Ultra territory in a much smaller package.
Once I found the Holosun PID. Double the lumens and nearly 5x the candela of the non-HPL tlr7. It also has a low mode which I do not use. The sure fire xc1c is even less bright. It’s not as bright as a full sized handgun light, but a better fit on a glock 19 and lights up all the way to the tree line in my yard
For a similar size and price, I've been really happy with the SIG Foxtrot 2R. Way better output than the TLR-7 family.
I can only imagine how many rads your hip is taking from that IWB holster! X-D Seriously though… been poking around for WMLs for smaller pistols. This review helps a lot. Thanks!
Just put one on my Canik MC9, however I did have to modify the key!
I used to carry a G19 with a X300 in an appendix holster for a couple of years. Great light, but after there are days that it was kinda uncomfortable to carry just due to how far out the light extended. I'm finally getting around to getting a TLR7 compatible holster for it to switch back to my 19 after carrying a 365x/chopped macro for a year.
I have the HL on my all of my pistols 👍
Ivan your review is years late. Why?
Streamlight TLR7 vs Surefire X300?
Any experiences between the difference other than price/brand?
Ready for an upgraded 7
Surprised you didn't mention the double-tap strobe when you were running down the features. I've had a TLR7 on my VP9 for over 5 years, and it's run flawlessly.
Heard the TLR 9/RM 1/RM 2 head would fit to give more candela
Is the Surefire comparison not an XR1? The XC1 had been out for quite some time, and the TLR7 was the death of it due to better pricing and performance. The XR1 is new, and is rated at 800 lumens.
Like your content and music. I been thinking this would be a great Sig 365 light. Thanks for the review
I got the tlr1hl and its great for under 50yrds. Further and while yea i can see figures and some detail. The fine of it is hard to see. Definitely for a closer engagement
Patiently waiting for the Streamlight HPL head to see how much it enhances the TLR 7
I have a TLR-7 on my Glock 19 for concealed carry and a TLR-1HL for my FNX, Glock 34 and Five-SeveN.
Love the damn things
TLR7-A is my go to for a carry light and the X300 for a OWB fun/range setup.
I love my TLR 7a as a concealed carry light. I just saw something the other day about Streamlight going to start selling a TLR HPL face cap/head that will greatly improve the candella. It makes it a little longer, but I can easily modify my holster to fit it so I'm excited.
Theres a new tlr 7flex that uses rechargeable batteries!
I love my TLR7 and have had zero issues with it after 3 years of daily carry. I wish they would put the TLR7 controls on the TLR1 as they seem way more intuitive.
I know they have the TLR9 but there aren't that many holster options for that version.
Ben a user of Streamlight WMLs for many years and been very pleased. Customer service is excelent for sure from my experience.
Running the TLR-7 on both my fullsize PDP & VP9!
I have medium small hands, and I simply can't activate any pistol light on the market, including the TLR7, without having to shift my whole grip forward 🙁
