Today I talk a look at the Streamlight TLR-7. One of the original lights for compact pistols. It does a great job for most of your closer engagement distances and is well supported by holster manufacturers. A solid EDC (Every Day Carry) choice.

  1. Agreed that the TLR7 is underwhelming, especially compared to modern full-size offerings like the X300 Turbo, Modlite PL350, etc. But, for a light that size, there’s really no reason not to carry one. My only criticism of this review is that the comparison of this against other lights was done in perfect conditions for the light, meaning a pitch black range. Try using a TLR7 in an environment with mixed lighting, and its shortcomings become glaringly obvious. I have a G48/TLR7sub and G19/TLR7A for when I want something a little more comfortable for concealed carry, but most of the time I feel a lot better equipped with a Modlite or X300T on my carry G17. No, it’s not nearly as comfortable to carry, but the capability of that setup is wildly greater than that of a tiny light like the TLR7. I do have one of the TLR7 HPL heads on preorder and I’m psyched about having something the size of the TLR7 with peak output of 11,000 candela, which is X300 Ultra territory in a much smaller package.

  2. Once I found the Holosun PID. Double the lumens and nearly 5x the candela of the non-HPL tlr7. It also has a low mode which I do not use. The sure fire xc1c is even less bright. It’s not as bright as a full sized handgun light, but a better fit on a glock 19 and lights up all the way to the tree line in my yard

  3. I can only imagine how many rads your hip is taking from that IWB holster! X-D Seriously though… been poking around for WMLs for smaller pistols. This review helps a lot. Thanks!

  4. I used to carry a G19 with a X300 in an appendix holster for a couple of years. Great light, but after there are days that it was kinda uncomfortable to carry just due to how far out the light extended. I'm finally getting around to getting a TLR7 compatible holster for it to switch back to my 19 after carrying a 365x/chopped macro for a year.

  5. Is the Surefire comparison not an XR1? The XC1 had been out for quite some time, and the TLR7 was the death of it due to better pricing and performance. The XR1 is new, and is rated at 800 lumens.

  6. I love my TLR 7a as a concealed carry light. I just saw something the other day about Streamlight going to start selling a TLR HPL face cap/head that will greatly improve the candella. It makes it a little longer, but I can easily modify my holster to fit it so I'm excited.

  7. I love my TLR7 and have had zero issues with it after 3 years of daily carry. I wish they would put the TLR7 controls on the TLR1 as they seem way more intuitive.

I know they have the TLR9 but there aren't that many holster options for that version.
