The Desert Tech Quattro is a dedicated 53 round lower that accepts proprietary magazines. Is it reliable? Does it make sense? What’s a good use for it? We break the DT Quattro down.

  1. for civilian it make sense
like rifle will lay in your car or near the bad and it will hold 50+ rounds
and if you will take spare mag it will be 100+ rounds but it will only 1 extra mag vs 2 with 30 rounders(and it will be 90 total as well)

  2. DT did a good job on this product line.

Got one of these because of the full ambi controls, the QMAGs are a novelty, much like the D60, except I agree with your take, they are extremely functional. The STANAG adapter is awesome as well, and is generally how I will keep my Quattro setup, its easy enough to remove it, and it is designed to interlock with itself when not installed so that it just becomes one piece to keep up with instead of 3. 20/30 rd mags are more prevalent, and they can be reloaded much faster than the QMAGs currently. If someone makes a simple speed loader system for the QMAGs, I might change my mind on the novelty factor of the mags. Also, with the adapter in place, swapping to different caliber uppers is much simpler.

The ambi controls are very well implemented, I do have some mild concerns about replacement parts if the proprietary bolt catch/mag release is damaged, but thats always a concern for proprietary stuff. I am very much considering getting a few additional Quattro receivers, just because of the ambi controls.

  3. I like the concept, but unfortunately it’s ‘only’ 53 rounds. Not even two mags..
I don’t think it’s worth it just for 23 more rds.
Especially when we have Schmeisser 60rds, pmag40 and D60 that are compatible with 99% of the AR we all already have.

  4. Long before this video i have had a ARPK build planned using this lower, 20" HBAR rifle length gas system barrel and binary trigger with a bibod. Only thing im not sure of is whether or not i am going to do a rifle length buffer tube and A1 stock or collapsable stock with A5 buffer system. Should be a fun range toy either way.
Also, i knew this would be reliable because they built it around and tested it full auto.

  5. This is more gimmick than the RIP ammo less effective than a DP-12.
Imagine having priority extra expensive magazines instead of just buying affordable capable 30 round standard magazines that fit 60 rounds where this joke fits 53???
    They 2011ed an AR-15!!!
I'd rather buy a quad stack or drum based on simple logic.
Makes a Glock switch look logical???

  6. I would not normally say this on one of your videos MAC but this lower has had enough light or fluff reviews for it. We need someone to give a real mud and dirt review with a little bit of real world abuse thrown in to show this thing is actually reliable before alot of people will spend their money on it.

  7. It's interesting, and of course I'm all for letting the market decide what is worth buying. But I personally can't ever see myself buying this even though it's not overly expensive. I have 2 40 round pmags, and I would just buy more of those. No worrying about which rifles they are/aren't compatible with. Oh, and of course single stack mags are so easy to load with a maglula……

  8. Gotta admit, when I saw videos on this at Shot Show, I was intrigued. After seeing your video, I’m sold. BUT?

Too bad I live in Illinois and can’t own it, or a lot of other shit! And I don’t see SCOTUS acting anytime soon! :/

And here’s the BUT…. Only concern I have is durability in and with that magazine well. How will it hold up if the firearm, with a full quad magazine in it, gets dropped at a certain angle or onto a hard surface or a boulder if you’re hiking or climbing in a rugged area?

It sucks but I’m kind of glad I can’t have one yet and can give it time to let others do things and test it and see what comes and see if anything durability wise, happens down the road.

  9. Well more ammo less mags but is it wider than two thirty round mags i dont know think about it if its the same width or more i wouldn't buy it just think i have 3 double mag pouches 60 rounds in each pouch this prob takes the same amount of room 5o rounds per pouch you lose ten rounds

  10. I see a torture test in this gun's future…at least I hope so. Also, it would be cool to know if it would work with .300 Blackout. Just a thought, but suppressed, it might make the ideal HD weapon. If you can't get it done in your pajamas with 53 rounds of suppressed .300 Black, then you really don't want to be there.

  11. It would be good as a home defense/clearing/CQB rig on a 10.5" or smaller SBR or pistol. It has a place. I just think it's cool that people are still trying to come up with new ideas for a 60+ year old platform.
