Ok Eric, did you know the carrier was designed as bore guide for cleaning? just remove bolt and firing pin then reinsert the carrier and run the cleaning rod thru the firing pin hole! Eugene Stoner was a genius indeed!
Love my Clone M16 Upper! ALWAYS Qualified with an M16. Saw some M4s with ACOGs in the armory, but Armorer, CO, XO, 1SG and Platoon Sgts never let us touch them, let alone qualify with them! Possessive B*stards!
Fact one their awesome
Hello, there is a question, was the resource of M16A2/A4 different from the rifles from Colt and FN.+I heard that the barrel resource was greatly reduced due to the use of a new at the time of the cartridge (XM855), compared to the M16A1 with the cartridge M193 (read it in an army document, which specifically criticized the M16A2 on many points). And by the way, the USAF did not use forward assist in their GAU-5 and GUU-5P carbines for a very long time, even when the Army and Marines had long ago adopted the M16A2.
My father-in-law was in the National guard from 1962 to 1968. Most of the time he carried an M1 Garand or M1 Carbine. However, for a short time he carried the M14. He complained that the M14 jammed a lot, and didn't like it. I was issued the M16A1 and M16A2 in the military. I think they are great battle rifles. You just have to clean them. Just like any other weapon that you are issued.
Didn't know the airforce don't have a forward assist or about the water grommet.
Fun Facts!:
1 It's called the AR-15
2 It's a rifle
3 It's chambered in .223
4 It's gas operated
5 It's the most popular rifle in the US
Didn’t know about the drain or the front sight post. But I’ve never owned an A1 or A2 stock or had iron sights.
What manual are you BSn about?
I joined the military in 79 and all of my NCO’s & and some of our Brass were fresh out of Vietnam and they taught us all those tricks.
Great video
Are the slots on the gas rings staggered apart on the piston or should they all be lined up together? 🤓Does it really matter? 🙄😏
Hi Al
I knew about three and a half of them… How many people know that you can't field strip the rifle unless the bolt is fully closed, or at least very nearly fully closed?
its a steaming pile! the main points too damn many parts too tight of tolerances you've got to run it dripping wet that damn center line charging handle and that gas blowing back heats up the receiver way past uncomfortable!! and there is no evidence whatsoever that Mattel made any part! that most likely came from an infantry joke of it being a toy compared to the M14!!
The video you and Chad had on AR assembly from way back when was the best tutorial I’ve ever come across. I assembled my first AR Using that as a resource, before I’d ever even shot one. Just wanted to say thanks, nearly a decade or more later
These are my favorite type of videos you do.
1:44 1 Hybrid Direct Impingement
4:00 2 No Forward Assist Initially
5:59 3 Drainage Grommets
7:12 4 Cartridge Disassembly Tool
9:31 5 Unreliable Function Myth
11:12 🃏 Mattel Toy Company
327 Fed Mag is the best Snub Nose Revolver Cartridge. It fires 32 S&W which has zero recoil. It also shoots 32 H&R and 32 ACP. Plus you get Six Shots instead of Five!
Wasn't there a myth that it was self cleaning? Either they told troops that or the troops started a rumor about it
I did know all 6 but I’m a nerd been building a lot of retro ARs lately great video still entertaining love ya
Because they said they never needed to be cleaned!
Kyle Rittenhouse needed his Forward assist
I have that same exact colt. I refuse to put any other mag in it than the metal gray factory colt 10 rd it just looks so good!
Fueling Al Gore's Rhythm.
In the 70s I bought Colt SP1 AR-15 for70 to 90 dollars I had no military experience with the M16s being in the Coast Guard. We had Garrands and Thompson. I wasn’t up on the system for awhile but you got me with the drain hole. Good video and info. Like the change and keep up the good A2 life. Richard
Thanks for the content. The only thing I didn't know was the drainage. I'm retired Airforce and own an A2.
When going through basic at Happy Valley, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, I remember Mattel being mentioned as we were being trained on the M-16. Not everyone in the AF is armed and I didn't think I would be, though they roped me into being in Security Police during alerts at Spangdahlem AB, so there was an M-16 in the armory that I took out on post with me. Anyway after observing it for endless hours, yes, parts of it could very well have been made by Mattel.
All I know is the original jammed in Vietnam. Happy birthday to me, Eric. Holy Moses.
I had an M-16A1 made by the Hydromatic Division of GM…
I knew about the "Mattel" thing. My unit in the Navy had some old units in the Armory that were labeled Mattel. Gator Navy!
A true inovator! Not like others
It kills me when people call it a “piston” trying to cope with the fact that DI simply isn’t as reliable in the most adverse conditions as short stroke piston guns.
I was first handed a M16A1 in the mid 70s. I was told be very careful with it as it cost your government $65. The very first ones had a 1/14 twist barrel. Good video I knew all 5. The reason for going to the birdcage flash hider over the 3 pronged was troops were using it to break metal bands on shipping pallets. Yes the 3pronged got folage in them but troops could learn to be careful. Good video.
I don't believe Mattel made any furniture. We don't have any physical examples today or official records. If Mattel did make some we would have proof.
I didn't know about the stock drain but knew about the bullet as a tool.
As to the Mattel buttstock; Nobody believes me that I tell, but the basic training rifle I used in 1977 in the USAF HAD ONE! The very top and bottom of the company logo was cut off when looking at it sideways with the Mattel name clearly there.
Also, one of the main the reasons the M16 ammo caused those problems was because the M16 initially did not have a chromed barrel and the army had a crap load of left-over dirty burning M194 ball ammo powder they were using in everything wanted to use it despite the M16 was designed for IMR 4475 stick powder told men it didn't need cleaning and no cleaning kits ( later rectified including a comic book style pamphlet with a pin up girl showing how.).
This was great!!
I use a 5.56 cartridge to push the mag release in far enough to adjust the mag catch on the other side when mags fit too tight or don't lock in place.
Over 20 years in the US Army retired Senior NCO . The M16 model is excellent rifle IMHO

Little known fact number six: The AR round travels five times as fast as any other bullet – Joe Biden.
Small Arms Solution Breaks it all down very nicely, These are internal pistons guns. The others HK / Sig / PWS / LMC / LWRC make external piston guns. Internal piston guns eats where it poops leaving massive carbon build up and runs hotter in the upper and BCG. External piston guns run much cleaner leaving little to no carbon build up and run much cooler in the upper and BCG. Some like the extremely very old school internal piston guns and some like the far more modern, advanced external piston guns. I have a number of both.
