  1. I own a post-ban one (Sporter Target Model) and it's my favorite firearm. Got it for half of what they're worth now.

Even though I also have a carbine AR, I prefer the 20" barrel. So accurate and well balanced.

Brings me back to when I was serving in the Army. I don't think I could ever sell it.

  2. ⚔️🛡️💀💀💀👏👏👏👏💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽✌️💯🌍🧠✒️✒️♾️♾️🤲💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🌎❤️🧠😎😎😎😎😎🦁🦁🦁🦁

  3. The A2s I used in the Corps had the adjustable drum rear sight, not that A1 style rear sight. Great rifles imo, my AR15A4 is definitely one of my favorites. I leave it in the A2 configuration, but I do have the A4 calibrated RCO and knights' armament quad rail accessible.

  4. Its funny to me that everyone wants a 14.5" or 10.5" barrel AR. Having spent 20 yrs in the Marine Corps with the M16A2 the entire time a standard 16" barrel with the collapsible stock feels like an SBR Carbine to me. We did CQB/CQC (whatever we are calling it now) with the A2. Great rifle. Funny, when I saw the A1 sights I was wondering if you made a mistake…. No of course you didnt.

  5. I can remember buying my first AR in 1993 and the really really odd looks I got from people that knew I had. It was pretty strange to see people buying them in ‘93 I can only imagine what buying one in ‘83 would’ve been like. Good stuff

  6. I've kept my A2 original also. It's the only AR I own that is in original configuration. Good to see you shooting yours. My first AR didn't even have the forward assist.

  7. I’m about ten years younger than you, and 40 years ago I didn’t own an AR nor could even afford one, but I was exposed to the venerable M-16A1 as an Army ROTC cadet. At ROTC summer camp I think I qualified Sharpshooter.

I went on carry an M-16A1 for a good portion of my four year stint as a lieutenant in the 4th ID after graduating college. On my final qualification I got Expert.

The other day I celebrated my mere 2nd anniversary of taking delivery of my own AR-15. I find it amusing that both you and I keep track of the “birthdays” of our firearms..so I guess I’m not the only lunatic! 😀

When I started getting into owning military-style semiautomatic rifles, I was an “AK guy”, but the Russian ammo ban made me consider the usefulness of diversification of calibers. And just as I would never get a 7.62x39mm AR, I sure as heck would not get a 5.56 AK…so my AR turned out to be somewhat similar to yours here in this video. I got me a Windham Weaponry (now very sadly out of business) “Government Model A1”…basically my old service rifle with some more current performance enhancements thrown in: A1 hand guards, flash suppressor, rear sight, pistol grip, teardrop forward assist; A2 front sight, receiver (apart from pistol grip and rear sight) w/brass deflector, stock, barrel, plus M4 feed ramp. Having carried an M-16A1 in the army the 20” barrel was and is not cumbersome for me at all, and it is faithful to the original design and philosophy of Mr. Stoner; it certainly delivers optimal ballistic performance with any ammo I choose to run.

I guess 40 years ago was the beginning of the end of a decades long period in which the M-1 Carbine served the same market that the AR does today. Seemed like back then anyone who was into the shooting sports had an M-1 Carbine; they were about as rare as air molecules and not much more expensive.

When I hit 40 years of ownership with my AR, I’ll literally be 100. Hope I make it…hope you do too, Hickok…till 120!
