After a lot of research, trial and error, and range time, we’ve finally come up with the ultimate home defense shotgun set up. Featuring accessories from Magpul, Streamlight, Monstrum and more, this HD build is extremely effective, as well as being relatively cost friendly. We used the Mossberg 500 series as the backbone for this build, however, most of the parts are available for the Remington 870 series of shotguns as well.
As always, your specific situation may dictate alterations to the set up, but, it’s our hope that this will provide you with a good foundation to cover most user’s needs. Also, make sure you know the laws and ordinances in your area prior to deploying any type of weapon for home/self defense.

Great vid ππΎ
I don't like that you shrug your face up at folks who DONT use your light setup. Its good that you've found a system that works for you but you should be saying "whatever works for you" (long as you have a light) vs shunning folks who dont have the money to get an expensive light setup. We as GUNTUBERS have to watch how we say things. Express your opinion without sounding like a jerk is better then saying YOUR way is best. Other then that niçe content.
Great video. Your early comments about making expensive mistakes mirror my experiences. I've got both a Shockwave and 500A and I've tricked out both with many of the options you've chosen. But there are a couple other options that you didn't cover that might be interesting to you or your readers.
I typically only use minishells in both of my Mossbergs. The 590S version wasn't out when I started using (and making) minishells. Of course, I started with the OpSol adapter, but that reduced the usability to minishells only. When Defender Tactical introduced their minishell adapter (which allows for the use of both mini and standard shells) I grabbed a couple. They install in minutes, work flawlessly, and add a lot of versatility to my Mossbergs.
Also, check out a TactaLoad Flash-5 if you have a 500/590. I keep my shotguns loaded with minishells and use a slimline side saddle (which works well with the minis). But the Flash-5 allows me to carry 5 extra full-sized slugs as well. It's so much better than a SpeedFeed stock. With this setup, I'm carrying about 20 rounds (15 minishells and 5 full-sized shells) in my 500. I could add a bandolier strap, but it would just be too heavy.
Finally…if you can find one: check out Ebay for a Treeline Forend light. It's similar in performance to the Streamlight (which I use on the Shockwave), but can be had for about $50-60 less. I installed one on my 500A.
Keep the tips and videos coming. You're saving people money.
I have a Monstrum light on my 500.
Thank you very much for putting this video on, I'm looking to modify mine Mossberg 500, so I'm going to copy your shotgun!! Thank you and God bless
Would love to get the Tru-Glo site β¦ my 590 came with a β stacked blade and ghost ring _ no idea how to get that off the barrel and cannot find any advisory info. Nowhere near a gunsmith.
Love your videos!
I tried that exact same fiber optic sight back in like 2013, right after i bought my 500. It was ok, but i didnt like it much. I then went with a fiber optic "bead"…now after a full overhaul, i have the XS BIG DOT sight and that thing is amazing!
Great video mate ,I'm getting great tips from watching your videos
Nice video π I put that carrier on my 590 but the shell holders were inconsistent with how they held the shells. Most were firm but a few were loose. Tried different shells etc. Returned it and am trying the velcro cards. I want to try that front sight as well. Thanks !
The question is 500 or 870 which is better π what do you think
Good info, thanks.
Nice video man. Thatβs an a1, no?
Sling is just faster. Sheath is more comfortable.
I just added a Surefire forened. It's heavy and over priced, but I bought it because I can operate on a dimmer light mode for indoor use.
I did everything you did to my 590 a1 she heavy. Plus a extended safety from ndz performance I like it
Thanks for sharing tis info.
