I decided to shoot this match running my usual pistol, but change up my rifle to an 11” Bren 2 Ms with an Eotech and 3x magnifier, which I have never had the chance to take out past 100 yards. My performance definitely suffered in the rifle portions of the stages due to my unfamiliarity with using that optic setup at distance. Not having my holdovers solidly memorized was a big disadvantage, and I spent much of the rifle stages attempting to figure them out on the fly. Consequently, I earned myself a LOT of penalties at this match but learned a good deal about how that rifle performs at distance (very, very well as long as you’re doing your part) and am excited to take it out again in the future to redeem my performance here.
Overall this was a fun match. I’ve never shot at that range before, and wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the physical facilities. The stages were all fun to shoot and well laid out and as usual I had a great time. This is a competitive match to get into due to the limited squads they can run, but I’ll be doing my best to get back there and see what they’ve got in store for me next!
Stage Descriptions:
Stage 1: Defilade Advance – On signal, move to first firing position and engage each plate on the double spinner with one hit each, with rifle or torso touching the barrel. Move to second position and repeat, same for the third. Once complete, unload rifle and show clear, then move down to the 4th firing position, load pistol and engage the texas star, which is blocked off to show you only the 2 bottom plates at any time.
Stage 2: Black Hole – On signal, engage 300 yard target with 1 hit. Ground rifle and move through tire to secondary firing position. Load pistol and engage one Duramax ball. Table pistol, move back through tire and repeat until time is out or all 5 Duramax balls are down.
Stage 3: Secrets – On signal, open an ammo can and go to designated shooting position. Engage that target with 2 hits standing offhand, 2 hits kneeling and 2 hits prone. Return to ammo cans and open the second one before moving to the second shooting position. Engage the target there the same way, 2 hits each while standing offhand, kneeling and prone. All targets at 200 yards.
Stage 4: Right, Left, What? – On start signal, retrieve 1 magazine from ammo can at far end of range. Run back, and engage the 100 yard target with 2 hits from each rung of the ladder from strong side shoulder. No double taps, you must move rungs in between shots. Once complete, move back to ammo can to retrieve another magazine and repeat the shooting process, this time from your support side shoulder.
