Springfield Hellion Review

The new Hellion from Springfield Armory is different, very different!

The definition of a Hellion is a rowdy, mischievous, or troublemaking person, especially a child.

The Hellion is unique since it is a bullpup rifle.

The Hellion is making an extreme case for itself because though the Hellion felt somewhat foreign; it still manages to feel oddly familiar at the same time.

It’s like a kissing cousin of the AR-15, so making that jump shouldn’t be that hard, and honestly, the more I think about it, the dumber I feel, but that’s the beauty of living in a country like the US.

I don’t have to decide because I can own them both.

I can own an AR-15 and the Hellion; to be honest, one makes me appreciate the other.

  1. To answer your questions, the only way to lock bolt back is with an empty mag or pushing up the bolt catch through an empty mag well with your finger. I don't recommend the latter. Another undocumented feature omitted in the manual is the forward assist built into cocking handle.

  2. One tip from a Hellion owner and retired Marine machinegunner. Co-witnessing the Hellion iron sight with an optic is challenging to say the least. If you remove the spacer in the mount, an Aimpoint PRO co-witnesses nicely with the Hellion irons at lower 1/3 level of optic.

  3. You should reconsider the value of the ambidextrous features and being able to shoot from either side of cover without exposing more of yourself that you must. I'm ambidextrous so I habitually train using both sides for the above reason.

  4. @Colion – @4:07 you mention locking the bolt. The bolt CAN be locked back either with an empty mag or manually by pushing up on the tab in the mag well.
I own the rifle and it’s SWEET!

  5. Compared to the m4a4 or an ar-15 for maintenance/cleaning the hellion is a dream come true. Put 1 round through it… 10 mins of cleaning! Put 500 rounds through it… 10 mins of cleaning! The hellion is probably the easiest thing out there to clean in its class.

  6. W😮W, that's the most honest YouTube description about a bullpup rile, a BiG THXs for this one.
I trained my hole life with diff. G36, MP5 and AR style/variants rifles.
In my opinion this "rowdy child"(*) the Springfield Hellion VHS 2 is perfect and it became my go-to rifle.
The Ukraine-Russia war shows us what kind of rifle we really need those days. Shooting targets on wide open fields 100-600m and just a few moments later we are doing CQB in town or similar environment.
You can add a red dot with a magnifier and a thermal scope without any problems to this rifle. Even using silencers isn't a big problem, the TAVOR 21 had many of problems when a silencer was attached. To be honest, I also like the AR-Style rifles, but it doesn't make any sense.

But Hey, this is my personal opinion as a forgein fmr. S0F 18D Grunt.
ANYWAY, I really really like your kind of content / firearms video, it's not a non-stop shooting/planking vid.
Can't wait to see more, so please KEEP IT UP and COMING and ROCKING IT 🤘🙃😉🤘

  7. Just picked one up two days ago, already owned an x95, but the hellion caught my eye just by looking like a cross between the guns from killzone and starship troopers. This is the only review I've come across that didn't complain about the trigger or the safety selector being hard to manipulate

  8. Springfield seems to be on a kick at trodding down the trail that Kel-Tec has already blazed.
They already cloned the KSG and this new bullpup seems awfully similar to the RDB.
    🤷
