Your Second Amendment rights are under attack in Maryland. Yesterday, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee passed an anti-Second Amendment Bill, House Bill 824 (“HB 824”), the counterpart bill of the anti-gun majority’s post-Bruen gun control billSenate Bill 1 (“SB 1”).

HB 824 doubles the already exorbitant existing fees to obtain carry permits for self-defense. Under Maryland’s current law, the average first-time applicant spends anywhere from $500 to $750, between the training, fingerprints, and fees for the permit itself. HB 824 also adds to the prohibited individual lists, preventing more citizens from exercising their right to self-defense, and expands the processes taken by the Maryland State Police to investigate applicants.

If passed, the current Maryland permit holder will not be in compliance with the Maryland code when this bill takes effect, and as of October 1, 2023, the Secretary of State Police will be required to revoke all existing permits to wear and carry a handgun.
