This scope setup is by far my favorite as I currently have it on 3 different rifle setup here at The Hide, The two biggest advantages are that its super light weight and its very affordable in price. If you shop around you can get the Aero Precision mount and the Nikon Buckmaster II 4-12×40 scope for less than $200 shipped.. That’s a heck of a value when you think about what your getting. A lightweight rugged and maneuverable setup that Ive personally shot out past 500yrds with the use of the Nikon BDC retical. With the versatility you can with this setup at only 1lb total weight it makes it possible to put a magnified optic on a number of platforms and not make the rifle a chunk to handle…. This setup is a Hide favorite!

  1. I have two of these 4-12 Nikons myself. One on my Rem 700 in .223, and one on my Savage Model 10 in 22-250. Both have worked very well for medium range coyote and groundhog hunting. 500yd shots are doable with the 22-250, and both guns group at .25" or one ragged hole at 100yds. if I keep the barrels cleaned every 20 shots or so, and do my part. The Rem needed work so I installed a Timney Trigger, but it is now a great shooter too. You really can't go wrong with these Nikon scopes for the money they cost. The spot on table really isn't all that far off..Always test your rifle and load no matter what the BDC tells you though. Mine will always hit the steel target out to 500yds using just the BDC but on paper they always come in a little high,,but I'm not complaining. How many rifles can you pick up, aim at a 5-600yd. 12" steel target and go bang all day long with? I know long range is all the rage, but my longest shot I can take is 650yds on my property, and although only .22 centerfires they easily connect on the steel at those ranges. Lots of fun, and it has taught me a lot about medium range shooting. I feel like I am cheating nowadays when I take a deer at 150yds…lol!
