but what are the ballistics of a 6mm ARC with a 12" to a 16" inch or shorter barrel out of an AR-15 without being a specializes set up. just an every day AR-15 build chambered in 6mm ARC what kind of performance can I expect everything I have seen is out of an 18" inch or longer barrel which you will not see much on a battlefield.
I know most barrel builds use rifle length gas for 18" and above. I would like to try a 18" with mid-length gas on the 6mm ARC . My question is, is that advisable or will that hurt your bcg or hunting grouping shots?
As far as military usage goes, I'd like to see how the 6mm arc does with a 14.5 in barrel. The 16.5 in (and up) barrel lengths are too long for effective military use regarding close combat and weight savings for our troops.
He said they tested as short as 12" barrel in an AR. How far out is the round accurate with that short a barrel? That could be great for like a backpack hiking/hunting combo gun.
An 11” .308 can launch a hand loaded 125gr SST at 2500fps (all be it with an offensive muzzle blast 😂).
The winning card for 6mm is it’s flat shooting and moderate recoil. .243 Win is great in theory just burns out barrels quickly. If Hornady can get 6mm ARC to have a MPBR of over 220yrds from a 11” barrel its a true game changer.
The 105gr Black 6mm ARC with a BC of .53 needs to be launched approximately 2600fps for a 4” MPBR of 220yrds.
The 125gr .308 SST launched at 2500fps has a 4” MPBR of 205yrds.
If 6mm ARC can’t beat that its failed as an SBR, hell at 2400fps the 6mm ARC matches the 125gr .308 and will drop less past then. The battle load will be lighter to carry than a .308 pack and can stretch out further if needed with less effect by wind drift.
So the chart doesn’t help me. Will it work good as a 12.5” ranch gun for coyotes and deer? And at what ranges will it have the energy to drop coyotes and deer? Thanks
I like the cartridge on paper and am a big Hornady fan. They really made the Creedmoor a great cartridge with their support. This may be the best cartridge for a standard bbl AR. The marketing in this video lacks. One cannot simply say “it is the greatest and will make all your dreams come true” and link the same chessy little simplistic ballistics chart to all comments.
Can you please give us a Ballistics Chart for 12.5" gas gun . I'd really love to know the 105g BTHP Velocity and energy from muzzle to 500 yards using 12.5 6ARC
Looks like a fantastic cartridge and I can't wait to jump on the wagon, but it doesn't outperform the 6.5 Grendel by much. My 18" Grendel pushes the Sierra 107's at 2750. Either the 6 ARC can match that velocity with the 108's out of an 18" barrel or it can't. What good is a slightly better BC if the bullet goes 100 fps slower? My guess is the two cartridges are the exact same performance.
glad to see some more new cartridge additions, been a while, as a reloader and p.o. ackley fan i appreciate NEW STUFF, for some of the crowd posting i apologize for their lack of study, if you have the muzzle velocity, bullet weight, coefficient you can get YOUR OWN DATA, have a nice day and thanks Hornady!

I just heard about 6ARC and it is incredible… It reminds me a lot of the 6.5 Grendal
This was a bad video. I would expect loss per inch and actual ballistics by barrel length from ballisticians.
Brass? Any brass? Could use some brass…please…
I think I may try a pinned 14.5” 6ARC. Not looking for max performance. Instead, I like to be able to match or beat my MK12 in a shorter playform.
So who makes ARs and bolt guns for the 6mm ARC?
I decided on a 22" Satern barrel on my AR-15 platform 6mm ARC. it is very accurate, barely any recoil, and definitely heavier than my carbine!

Answered question in first 44 seconds. 18" barrel for military, that means us as well.
He says they tried it from a 26 inch down to a 12 inch barrel but never once did he mention specific ballistics at any barrel lengths.
That guy should run for office.
Since he didn't answer I will. 24", final answer
12.5
are MK12's being chambered in 6mm ARC ?

So it doesn't matter? 12-26 inches, it's the same… there is no optimal barrel length for this cartridge? Nice answer.
LOL. A magical barrel — velocity isn't reduced when barrel length is shortened, but is increased when barrel is lengthened, LOL.

For s** and giggles would be pretty need to feed an pistol.
Hornady need to up their game.

A little R&D could make 6mm ARC great 👍
He didn't answer the question ❓
What would be best twist rate for 12” AR barrel to hunt coyotes and deer with silencer. Looking for good truck gun for around the farm.
So the chart doesn’t help me. Will it work good as a 12.5” ranch gun for coyotes and deer? And at what ranges will it have the energy to drop coyotes and deer? Thanks
You literally didn't give any numbers out on what the velocity change would be or percentage or anything… what a waste of my time.

So no real answer he must be a politician
The trick is getting a 6mm or 6.5mm round that will work well out of a 16 inch barrel and can use reliable 25 Round Magazines.
I found a barrel i like for my 6 MM AR build I'd 16 inches with 1-8 twist, week this trust rate stabilize the 103 grain bullets?
Can you please give us a Ballistics Chart for 12.5" gas gun .
I'd really love to know the 105g BTHP Velocity and energy from muzzle to 500 yards using 12.5 6ARC
and 2000 Rounds later the Barrel is gone

I would like to see a 16" light weighted threaded barrel in a Bolt Gun for Hunting PA White Tails.
Pointless video but ok.
In regards to the velocity that is printed on your ammo what is the length of your test barrels ?
Asked what is optimal barrel length…never answered the question. Good job, Hornady.
