Looking for a new rifle? Great. You have a lot of options to choose from, and not all of them are AR-15s. There are a lot of other semi-auto rifles out there chambered for 5.56x45mm, that are different platforms and perform equally well if not better.
Why 5.56 you might ask? That is a good question as there are plenty of other calibers out there that all have their own advantages, like the .308 and 7.62×39 to name just a few. However, when it comes to versatility and availability, 5.56 beats them all. It is light and cheap. It can be found everywhere, and it can do the job reliably out to 300 yards without a problem and even further if you care to train with it a lot.

The Steyr AUG is a fantastic rifle. It ran ring around the AR in Australian Army trials.
The US will struggle to adopt a bullpup purely for the massive training liability. The AR is inferior but so well ingrained in the US psychy that the break costs are too high.
Basically the same reason that the US sticks with feet, inches and Fahrenheit. A demonstrablly inferior system to metric but making the change seems too hard.

This list is terrible. Have you ever even picked up one of these let alone run it’s through its paces. With the exception of the tavor and cz nothing in the list is better than an AR of comparable price!
