Wouldn't a slightly thinner, properly heat treated spring steel hood provide more protection? A wider gap between hood and emitter/glass, in addition to a much higher deformation and an ability to return to its original shape.

planning on making a magnifier thats as durable as your holo? 3x-6x would be nice. your holo's a must have but no magnifier on the market can match your holosights durability and reliability in more rough environments.
