I would take a banged up WW2 Era AK over a brand new fancy nancy AR.

I have a pile of various mags, as well, but surprisingly my current favourite are the new production Croatian mags. They're cheap, have a bolt-hold, are reliable as almost any other steel mag I've used, and no longer have the locking issue that used to require some filing.
