Ruger Mini-14 vs Bushmaster AR-15

Lots of shooting in this video. I took the boys out to the range where we put a lot of rounds through both a Ruger Mini-14 and a Bushmaster AR-15. It was nice to compare the two carbines and let my sons shoot both. They have their favorite and I have mine.

  1. Bullet Drop Compensation Sight, 1/7 Twist Barrel, 5.56 NATO Chamber, and Stock Weld when using a scope, without need for add-on cheek piece, are just a few of the M4 features which permit a BSZ and BDC function, for better than 3 MOA accuracy from Mk 262 ammunition out to 600 meters, shooting with as issued irons and even better performance from a rangefinding/bullet drop compensating AGOG scope. In other words, the M4 is just plain superior in all manner to the Mini 14 in the things that matter, like hitting where aimed. Get the 20 inch barrel model, AR-15 A4 and add a float tube or free float rail and 4.5lb two stage trigger for better than 2 MOA performance from irons to 600 yards from a sling supported prone position.

  2. Cool factor leans toward the Mini 14… The universal appeal for magazines and accessories goes to the AR15.. BUT.. It's America and you can have both. What a Great Country ! Nice video, Looks like you had a great time at the range.

  3. Mini 14's are chambered in 5.56nato, even the old Mini's that says "CAL. .223" on the receiver. You can also replace the old flip up sights with adjustable M1 Carbine sights, and #4 Ruger scope rings will still clear the sight.
