Too many people get caught up in buffer weight and ejection. H1 is good for most applications period lol
Thanks for the knowledge, you guys are awesome.
Do it with a 7.62×39.. extremely noticable
Did the braided Super 42 buffer spring mitigate any of the change that you might have felt?
Do it! let's see what happens to the bolt if there is no buffer (or spring).
Please.
barrel length, gas length, barrel profile/weight, full auto ect all play a factor…
With my rifle the shells eject to my 1 o'clock position but my real problem is that I'm able to fire the first round but when loading the next round the BOLT closes about 3/4 of the way but the BULLET somehow gets CAUGHT UP and is BENT in the middle with deep GOUGES on the side and it will continue to do that until about 3-5 rounds and then after that I'm able to finish the magazine shoot the rifle with no problem most of the time.
Is that a BUFFER TUBE problem or something else ENTIRELY

I've found the spring tension impacts much better than the buffer. OSS type can? Do nothing or very little. RC2 type blowback? Sprinco Red spring and H2 buffer. Best for non flow through (OSS type) action? Sprinco Red with a Griffin Armament SOB Buffer. Smooth action and very reliable.
I have never seen a different rifle weight buffer, so I would love to see you do a video on that.
i run an H3 buffer on my 7.62×39 AR because i figured more gunpowder could use a little bit heavier buffer to even it out. you should do another test using different calibers like 7.62, 300 AAC, and 6.5 Grendel
I was curious how the weight affected the operation and feel. Thank for the informative video!
You won't feel anything, it just slows down the cycling (to improve reliability where needed)
what about bullet weight and powder?
Must test on FULL AUTO.
Full auto shows the differences. The rounds per minute would change based on ammo and suppression. Short barrels want higher weight as well as short barrel suppression.
I wanna see this ON AR10/ .308
I'd like to know your thoughts on JP Enterprise's silent captured spring system. I run it in a few of my AR builds and I'm a fan. Just wondering if you've ever tried it. Thanks for the content!
Had fun and got good info on buffers
Run the vltor a5!
I built a 13.7 and I couldn’t diagnose why it wasn’t cycling properly, several hundred dollars down the drain I realized the Geissele H2 buffer was too heavy for it to cycle (wolf gold 5.56). Changed out the buffer for a carbine and it runs perfectly now
What about the weight of the BCG? I have a 20" 6.5 Grendel that was shooting fine until I changed it to a side charging (heavier BCG). IT ejects but fails to pick a new round or even close the bolt completely. I tried switching to carbine length spring. I bought a adjustable buffer (can change weights inside) and still nothing. Any advice would be appreciated.
It’s all about muzzle rise and and ability to stay on target/ faster follow up shots. I use an H3 buffer with a mid length gas tube, on a 16” barrel. It really smooths out the recoil impulse.
It would be interesting to see wear patterns on parts between a regular carbine weight buffer and a H3 or H4 buffer over 2,000 rounds. Also, the Geissele Super 42 buffer/spring system comes with a different spring which might mitigate felt recoil between different buffer weights. It would be interesting to see what the effect of the different buffer weights would be without the Geissele spring.
Excellent!
Would have been nice if there was a squared board behind you to see muzzle rise. And different grain weights to see if that changes things as well.
For the sake of the over gasing, I'd love to hear your take on also implementing the Radian Raptor-SD silencer optimized charging handle along with the different weight buffers in your MK 18. Good info in the video though, thanks!
at 10:26 brass to the left can also happen in really high winds or when shooting to the left in fast moving vehicle.
Keep em coming!
Excellent analysis
My 9mm buffer is 9 onces and extended. This video made me rethink buffer weights for 5.56 and 300 blackout though.
Should I use a heavier buffer with a Wolf A1 12.5 upper?
"science experiments"….man, Clint has the best job 🤣
Now I find myself questioning my selection of a Sprinco Red spring and Odin adjustable heavy for my .450 Bushmaster build (in progress). I'll be running a AGB, though, so we'll just have to see what happens.
