New Shooter Shooting An AR 15 For The First Time – Ruger AR556

My 5th “son” Ernest had a blast shooting an AR 15 for the first time when we took my new Ruger AR556 to the range and let him give it a try. It is always rewarding to help teach a new shooter the basics and see them having good, clean, safe fun with a gun.

  1. 400 rounds is plenty of of shots to test for functionality. I always laugh at all these internet operators who say you need to fire tens of thousands of rounds through the gun before you should trust it. In entry level guns, after a couple of thousand rounds, you should already be inspecting parts for wear. One has to understand, those entry level guns don’t bring mil-spec parts. Bolt should be 158 carpenter steel, extractor should be tool steel, firing pin, gas key bolts and staking , extractor spring, o-ring, gas rings.
    400 rounds is just fine.
