I would say it depends on where you live. For half the country, 5.56 is going to be king. When you get out to the pasturs and sandlots. Then you might need that extra range.
Everything is a trade off.
I the FRT so it’s no longer an option. There are rifles that are lighter than others like PSA I believe. Just checked and it’s 8.4lbs someone says.
Really if your asking this question, a better question is if you should have a Falkor Petra or a M107 50BMG, or a Bushmaster/Remington BA50.
I was saying this about 22 ammo.
Can carry 200 rounds of 22 and not even notice it.
The .223 is generally cheaper to shoot which gives me more opportunity to shoot which makes me a better shot.
I figure the Ninjas will be prime targets leaving me an opportunity to escape.

Human Practical Application. Marksmanship. Purpose and Intent on your target. SO MANY factors go into the "better than" created debates and "arguments" in the COMMUNE(s) of the fantasy of SHTF. I own both calibers as well. I am 50 years old now and know my physical limits. That being stated, situation and circumstance dictates DEPLOYMENT of said weapons and caliber capabilities. Talk is cheap. Proving Human Practical Application is another. I ignore HEARSAY on FANTASY talk. Semper Fi!
