SMFH thank you for this video. I did the dumb mistake of running buffer tube pass the catch. Didn’t realize until after I had pinned the castle nut smh. But I fixed it thanks again.
WARNING I LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY. YOUR BCG ISNT ALIGNED AND THAT TITANIUM RETAINER IS GONNA CHEW YOUR BUFFER WEIGHT WAY WORSE. THE BUFFER WEIGHT SHOULDNT EVEN TOUCH THE RETAINER PIN WHEN UPPER N LOWER ARE ATTACHED.
Idk if you know this but your retainer pin hole is too far back or mismatched upper n lower 2 so when you put your uppr on thr bcg pushes thr buffer weight off of the retaining pin i believe 1/16 of an inch. If the holes off your buffer will slap it everytimr you shoot so that titanium pin is gonna mess up the hole for the pin and your buffer weight. Id rather snap the retainer
BCG and buffer are not meeting because the lower is out of spec or the bcg is too short or both. Go buy an offset buffer retainer pin. Will allow the bcg snd buffer to rest together at all times taking pressure off of retainer pin. Problem solved.
Unless you’re getting a beefed up buffer retaining pin like the one on the HK416 I would leave the retainer pin out and let the buffer rest on the hammer when disassembling your AR.
Rather my buffer get a bit dinged up than have a little metal bit getting jammed into the trigger system.
I didn't break mine but wanted to share something if it helps. I bought a Uxcell spring from Amazon, size .012" and OD .08" and almost 12 inches long. This specific spring is the same thing Strike Industries uses and also works for that takedown detent pin. About $8 for 12 inches of spring.
Thank you so much for this video. It’s 2:30 am where ima at and I couldn’t go to sleep knowing my AR had the same issue, I had to get up and fix it how you did. Thanks again
You just saved my sanity from taking a shit. I didn't even know what to call that retaining pin and how it stayed secured. Was about ready to yank my beard off. Thanks for the info 👍
Push the plate against the spring before running the castle but in. You won’t have to use a knife or something flat to get the spring in the right position
Heck yeah dude. Your video helped me fix out my issue. I tried replacing stock wrong way the pin and spring got knocked out of place. Finally found your video and got it back running good! Thanks!
Just an fyi, channel lock style pliers like that, are really directional, and you tightened the castle nut with the pliers backwards. If you were actually gripping material tightly, and with no cloth to protect, it would slip off gauranteed using the pliers backwards like that. Otherwise good video 🇺🇸

I lost the tiniest spring twice. I need to just buy a bucket of springs for my ar and hope i dont run out
Thanks for the vid. I screwed up my pin AND spring replacing the back plate and reinstalling incorrectly!
Great instructions! Thank you.

What’s that spring called that had a kink in it
Just happened to me today Ive never even fired the gun
What is that spring called at 2:26
What’s the small spring called that popped out behind the stock end plate

Maybe the lower is out spec! Ideally buffer will never touch the pin when close! Someone sell special pin to fix the problem
Don't use it.
This is still a perfect video – Thank you! I just Installed an SBA4 brace on my new AR-15 Pistol
Had a blond moment, thank you!
Thank you. One of the only videos on YouTube that shows the whole process very clearly.
P.S. please get a castle wrench. Mine was around 5 dollars at the local gun store.

you don't need the pin there junk work great with out them .
My retainer just went shooting out when I took mine apart tonight to clean it now it shoots out after racking it 😅
Your video mentioned to replace that spring if it has a 'kink'. Mine actually got bent but I am still using it. is this bad?
