The PTR 9CT Modernization Project

Is the MP5 platform still the cream of the crop for pistol caliber carbines? Is it still 1985?

In this video we go over the aftermarket parts and accessories that you need to make an MP5 clone into a viable modern pistol caliber ca- pistol. We started with a factory fresh PTR 9CT 601 and turned it into a night vision capable tactical subgun. But that sucked, so we scaled it back a bit. The end result is a little more practical and tasteful.

  1. When it comes to the long barrel one, why the hell wouldn't they have moved the front sight out and made full length hand guards? Kind of like a 9mm g3. That would be so cool, but instead everyone just has the bare barrel or a stupid pretend suppressor.

  2. Hey Hop, this is a bit off topic but I was wondering if you would consider doing a piece on doing the paperwork to SBR a firearm. I have my really nice folding Magpul Zhukov stock for my CZ Scorpion but it's not mounted since I have not done the paper work yet. Could you school us ignorant kids on this process and fill us in on what to expect when doing this? Thanks either way and love the videos good sir.
Do you like the PTR MP5 clone as well as the H&K? I didn't know if there was a quality sacrifice or not.

  3. Stupid dweeb here. I have a PTR-9CT. And yes, after putting meprolight Tritium front and rear sights, I dremeled a V cut into the front ring. I then bought a POF MP5 HK33 green lower with selector and dremeled it to fit as well. JB weld to reinforce the front. I then dropped in a Franklin trigger pack. I also added a Moore Advanced Dynamics (M.A.D.) Moore Advanced X-tractor (M.A.X) for the drop-in bolt head. Added a MI rail with a MagPul AFG-2, and topped it with a Trij MRO and GG&G QR mount. At the front of the MI bottom rail, I have Lasermax green Spartan laser/light. SB Tactical brace and KCI mags. I also have a couple HK drums and a CGSgroup qube that I can don very quickly. This is my gray backpack firepower load out, when I have to go gray, and step outside the fence. A Ferro Concepts Slingster or Spector 2 point keeps it balanced. YMMV.

  4. The rail space and reliability is why I’ve avoided these type of sub guns. They’re absolutely fun but for the money I just can’t find the logic haha I’ll stick with a modern setup Lol 😂 thanks Hop!!!

  5. So, I don't have an MP5 clone. I still want one. The thing is, they're dope AF. PCCs are already sub optimal anyway. Also, seems like a vertical grip would have alleviated a lot of your real estate issues. Yeah, I know it's verboten by the poodle shooters, but that brace will be shortly as well. YOLO.

  6. I literally cannot understand people who say that seating a full mag on a closed bolt on an HK/PTR roller gun is too difficult to do at all. It's literally the same amount of effort and additional mag taps as a freaking AR tactical mag change if you're not downloading mags like a fucking tool.

Also muh tri-lug lmao has got to be a huge reason people still think this platform is tactical enough for 2021right?

  7. Bruh
Guns are great. And I love to shoot as much as anyone.
But shooting is not better then sex!
If you think it is you must not be having very good sex. Step up your game Hop.

  8. All PCCs are toys. They are fun and look cool though. However until someone manufactures one to take a more capable round such as the 7.5 FK BRNO round they have little practicality. Everyone send your favorite manufacturer a letter requesting a 7.5 fkbrno chambered PCC.

  9. Hop, you hate it and you love it… Kind like that crazy girlfriend we have all had! Except for the larper boyz that wonder what it's like have a girlfriend. MP5 = A girlfriend with pretty face and nice body, but plain F'ing bat shyte nuts! Pretty and dysfunctional in a nice little package! Just like my first wife!

    Cheers!

  10. Hey if you hate the MRO so much try and see if you can borrow the green MRO. From my experience no blue tint, or magnification. I haven't notice the parallax issues. I don't own nods so I'm not sure if that problem still persists on the green version. The battery is fucking awful though, 2.5 ish months on setting 4

  11. I can vouch for the KCI Gen2s as well. I got 10 30s for my 9CT and 10 20s for my 9KT. I originally had 10 30s and 10 20s from ETS, but they seem a lot more difficult to insert than the metal KCI mags.

  12. It's not surprising, as sub guns have been outdated for decades now. Intermediate rifles for a long time do most things better in todays age of people having access to body armor. Despite this I still love sub guns as they are cool with a lot of history that makes them interesting as collectables.

  13. I would like to make some counter arguments, to some of the points you made in this video. Unfortunately, I don’t currently own an MP5, but it’s on my bucket list. Hopefully I can make it happen sooner rather than later, because I’d like to make a video of my own.

Until then, good video, good points. But I still want one.

  14. Pretty good analysis. Although it's just as accurate to say that all pistol caliber smg's are obsolete. In the age of 300blk, 450 bush and 50 beo a sbr with slightly longer lop can generate as much power or more that 44 mag with the same capacity as the 9s. So really this is just a critique of a sought after range toy.

  15. Agreed on all counts…but the dumbass part of me that like 80's movies still wants one.

I think the big part of why the MP5 lasted so long when more modern options existed is because they're great in full auto. Semi-auto only loses the advantage of the platform much like if you had a semi-auto Stoner LMG with the constant recoil system. I think just about all of it's contemporaries where all open bolt guns which sucked for single shot accuracy as well as having worse recoil in most cases. About the only other SMG that's as "famous" is the Uzi and it's far heavier. Not to mention the MP5SD not requiring subsonic ammo and generally being on of the best integrally suppressed SMGs (wait, are there others at all?)

  16. I'm using a surefire 628 with an IR flip cap, and a sight tree picatinny mount with a perst-1. It gives me IR light & laser and white light. The drawback is that I can't mount a suppressor
