Well according to this video. Between these 2 Olight is the way to go. More bang for the buck.
I can't bring myself to trust my family, and my animals lives to a Chinese made anything.
Great info… thank you for your transparency. Itโs refreshing and your reviews have become my go to. Always looking for your reviews.. keep up the good work
Well done video. One note on the HLX mount…. The stock Streamlight mount is definitely not the HLX's strong point but the HLX is pre drilled and compatible with Surefire mounts. So it opens it up to some of the most rock solid and adjustable mounts on the market. Im running the Magpul angled mounts and they are direct bolt on to the Magpul part. Fits nice and tight up to the rails.
Also, Arisaka makes a Surefire switch compatible tail cap that allows you to run Surefire single or dual switches which are solid. Allows me to run my IR and white light in one switch.
Just another option for those who are looking into the HLX. Its highly upgradable and allows a more budget friendly serious option for those who intend on having a duty build.
I don't if it's sad but I had no problem sitting threw an hour + video on flashlights. Thanks for the video!
My only issue with Olight is the low temperature range like winter in WI, they stop working long before some cheap handheld lights. When winter hits I just leave them home.
One I bought from Optics planet…
…and a second one I bought form ebay two weeks after that
I'm picking up what you're putting down.
For me and my personal opinion, my biggest knock on Olight is the power supply. I want dual fuel capability for my user rifles and not be limited to a specialty battery. I've had moments while in areas with limited to no power, for long durations, and didn't have access to charge batteries, but did have access to CR123A batteries, which made it nice having my Streamlight HLX light. Even their Rail Mount 1 that can use common AA batteries are nice if in a pinch. Reduced output of resorting to backup batteries is better than no output of dead rechargeables that can't be recharged in the moment.
Love the other features of Olight. Just not recommended for duty use. Says me.
Wow, I was just comparing these! Thanks! For both of them, can you pop the switch out of its mount/housing and just have it loose? Asking because I have an Aero s-one handguard.
hey, by the way on the bca10.5 rear charging upper. you have to cut the hand guard if you want to add a suppressor eh? i didnt care but a buddy of mine wanted to build after we shot mine.
Any plans to review some of the really budget light brands out there, like Feyachi? (am one of those for whom $100 is a lot for a light)
Something you didn't mention is that both lights can use a Surefire-style "scout" mount for M-Lok or Keymod. The Olight has a scout pattern from the factory, just bolts right up to those two screw holes in the base. For the Streamlights you also need to buy an adapter plate to make them fit scout mounts, which is a bit more fiddly and less tight to the rail, but functional and still way less bulky and much more secure than the provided 1913 mount.
The advantage of the scout mounts are that you can use them to get the light a LOT tighter to the rail, or an offset mount to place them from 9/3 to 11/2 or 7/5, etc, or use an inline/cantilever mount to move the light forward or back further on the rail if there's muzzle concerns or device conflicts, etc. Downside on the Odin is that you lose the handy QD functionality when attached to a scout mount.
And the optional M-Lok mount for the Odin (comes standard on the Odin Mini) is a great option too, only takes one M-Lok slot, and a 9/3 becomes an offset 11/1 or 7/5 very tight to the rail and you still retain the QD functions, and can generally be had for less than a good scout mount option.
I like both companies I bought few olights for my pistols but have noticed there not as budget friendly no more compared to stream light and others. Ust to be one there selling points. My fav is the dang rechargeable key chain light lol. But I was trying decide also between these to. And think Iโm going streamlight cause I like the fact if I need to throw batteries in it I can. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ I run alot of the old surefire m951 lights that I converted to led. They ust to be cheap but not so much now.
Thanks for reminding me about gun deals. I've been chicken hawking local shops major and small guys waiting to run into a Saint Victor pistol in 300BO or 308. I happened to see gun deals had a gunprime link to a 300BO for under 1000! Needless to say one or more is heading my way. Thanks for the heads up!
"A very truncated video" – over an hour. Good lord, man. I admire the commitment.
Went with the Streamlights…mainly for the mount strength and superior water resistance after seeing a pretty intensive review where that wound up being the Odin (mini) breaking point, plus the HLX are quite a bit cheaper, as ya say. Got a few of them for about $100-110 a pop. Realistically? I would (hopefully) never be in a position to actually wreck something to that extent, but hey. It's somewhat confidence inspiring.
Additionally, I'm just not thrilled with the way the Olights throw out max power for like 30 seconds then dim considerably. And the lack of a strobe feature. They look quite nifty though.
Otherwise, Olight's Valkyries and Baldrs are pretty great. Can be had quite cheaply and they're all you'd really need on a handgun for home defense.
Iโve been running a Odin and Odin mini for a while now along with several of their other lights and I love them. I have had no issues so far. Great informative video
Olight makes good stuff, itโs the big R words that put higher power batteries in them that makes them blow up almost 100% of the time. And thatโs with their edc lights not as much weapon lights, the ones that melt down is cause people put them on high power, donโt lock them out and then put them in their pocket.
So you're saying that I shouldn't be ashamed to step out with my weapon-mounted grenade???
I could close my eyes and know that cadence lol
I have a couple Olights and theyโve been fine. Itโs really weird how tribalistic people get about their brands.
Itโs funny you did this video because Iโve been looking at the two exact lights here for my rifle.
Really dig your work btw. Thanks for doing it
I like the olight cuz the brightness
Damn good review John. FYI: if you're epileptic or just dislike the strobe on the Streamlight it can be turned off by pressing the switch 10 times and hold it on the 10th press. The light will dim to let you know the change has been made. If your not prone to seizures, or u just like to party while shooting ๐บ๐ฝyou can turn it back on the same way. Or at least thats how mine works.
Feature length review?
Imma makes some nachos ๐
Trash vs Junk! Who will win??
Oh snap! An hour long review. This is like nutnfancy territory.
Nice
Your production quality is incredible
Crazy cuz I am deciding between these 2 brands the last 3 days.. crazy.. o I decided to go with the 10.5 5.56 bca billet 1-7 twist.. thx for the help brother.. I got your back an lots of respect for an about this vidoe
Very cool again buddy ๐๐๐๐๐
I think if I were to get the Odin, I would probably put some ring ribs or linear vent slots in the outer housing. Even if just a few thousandths with a file…
I regarded you so highly ! Why have you gone the the olight side with all the other shills?! ๐ญ
